With my upcoming Wash Party July 8-9, I was finally inspired to work on my Thor Model 220C. (Reference link below)

It has been sitting in my basement for almost a year now, waiting on me to give some attention to getting the drain disassembled, and new gaskets installed. That has now been accomplished, and new hoses have been installed to and from the water pump.

I have operated the mechanism, but without either the dishwasher or washing machine components installed inside of the outer tank.

I am now ready to start doing full operation water tests.

[I have already presented the following questions mentioned below, to Tom (tomturbomatic) and to Russ (westyslantfront). Tom is investigating, but I thought I would ask the whole audience for any advice you wish to share.]

Here is the remaining problem, as I see it. The Spin Balancer, when I received it, had a 1/8 inch diameter hole in the underneath side. I have used a 2-part epoxy to patch the hole (dark spot at about the 9 o'clock position in the photo below). I am nearly 100% positive that there is little or no oil remaining inside the Balancer.

In Thread Number: 33451 - Possible help with THOR automagic ???, Tom had made the following comment regarding the Thor Balancer: "Inside it are two ring weights and it is partially filled with oil to allow the weights to move about easily."
Link: www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T...

I am reluctant to spin the machine, especially with water and clothes, before I resolve the issue with my Balancer.

Does anyone know what kind of oil should be replaced in the Balancer?
Does anyone know How Much Oil to add?

My solution to this, would be to weight my balancer, and have someone else, who owns a Thor with a similar balancer, weigh their Balancer, then I would add an amount of oil equivalent to the difference in weights - with consideration to the type and weight of the oil itself. My Thor literature implies that the Balancer was the same in all of the Spin type machines.

Getting fresh oil inside the Balancer would potentially be a problem too. There is a plug in the bottom of the Balancer (at about the 3 o'clock position in the photo below) . I am uncertain how it comes out (I believe it was pressed in, not screwed in). If I am successful in removing the plug, replacing it successfully would be the next problem. Tom commented that this is likely a sealed system.

Any thoughts on any of this?

Thanks very much.

Mike

ps: I will be making videos of this machine in action as work and testing progresses.

Mike,

Thanks to Ross (Westyslantfront), I have the service manual for the Thor Automagic. I scanned it in at my office to send to Rich (Perc-o-prince) to help with his machine, and I would be happy to awns you the same, assuming that you don't already have the service manual.

Let me know.

Ron

Ron,

I would be happy to have a Service Manual. We can Message outside of this thread regarding the details (cost, address, etc).

In the mean time, could you please look to see if there is anything about servicing the Balance Plate?

THANKS,

Mike

Mike,

Just let me know where you want it sent and I'll email it. The entire manual that Ross sent me has been scanned into an electronic file.

Ron

Thank you very much Ron. The answer to my question regarding the Clothes Washer Balancer was in the Service Manual that you emailed to me.

It reads: "The balancer, part A6016, is factory filled with three quarts of Thor S-652 oil (approx. SAE 70)."

Mike
