and another one........they seem popular all of a sudden.....this one doesn't work, and yet they won't negotiate, but would rather toss it in the dumpster...some people!

I'd say the avocado washer is a late 70's model (non-shaded color was introduced in 1977). This console was replaced about 1980 with what is on the washer in the third photograph.
The next one would be a 1973-1976 model. Last washer would be early 80's, companion dryer would be 1973-1976. Interesting photos that show the progression of GE consoles from 1973 through 1984. L |

Interesting clutch of FF's in Jersey. That Avocado model must have been made the LAST year GE offered Avocado. That color seems to be the only one that survived with shading. The Harvest, Almond and Coppertone went to flat tones all. I would like to go get it for that beautiful cabinet alone, but also for the only bleach funnel I've ever seen in Avocado. Pity the activator and mini-basket are boring white. Easily replaced though.
I seem to remember models with that tacky woodgrain trim being offered here in Connecticut at stores like Caldor's in the mid Eighties. |

I had e-mailed the seller earlier, who just got back to me recently. They said that there is 3 other people who inquired as well. Was that anyone here? They told me to contact them before I would be ready to come to make sure it is still available.
So what do you say Eric, want to go get what would be my first Avocado washer? I love those Filter-Flo's! |

Neglect isn't the word....and I don't get it....none of mine have ever rusted like that........my mothers FF got used everyday, she always wiped it down at the end of the day, the lid stayed up until the drum dried and changed color, and she would never run load back to back, always had to have a cool down before staring the next load, usually about 20 minutes
I just found a Kenmore on the side of the road, nice condition for the most part, and I should have done before and after pics, the filth and detergent residue all over the inside was terrible, I took a powerwasher to the whole thing, and let it dry in the sun, otherwise I would have been scraping and scrubbing for days.... how do people expect to get clean clothes out of a dirty machine?..... |

I picked it up on Friday night, hour and a half drive each way. The machine was definitely worth it as this is my first avocado washer and I have a soft spot for Filter Flo's. I agree needs a good cleaning but in talking with the gentleman who sold it, it sounded like they did do some cleaning to it on a regular basis. It was used a lot by 3 separate people, and this moist NJ after all. He took care to cover it as it was outside for a bit. Seems like every machine I get has a bit of rust.
I will let you all know how it runs once I get it setup and if I can find my camera. (Probably still boxed up from my move.) |
