One word...

seamusuk's profile picture
And that word is CRAP- these are made by the same company that made the "Retro" looking Servis Twinnie about 10 years ago the name of which escapes me at the moment. Where I worked at the time sold these and almost every one came back as faulty, truly an awful machine!!!!!

I hardly dare say this, but they were made by a Dutch company by the name of Velaundry. These washers were sold in the Netherlands under the name Velo. Velo used to be a quality product, there are still many older wringer washers used. Unfortunately at a certain moment the factory was taken over and that is where the history of the crap Velaundry produced starts. I'm not sure if this is an older machine of one of the newer ones. They look the same. If you want to be safe, then stay away from them. Parts are no longer available at the factory because they went bankrupt.

Norfrost

We put this through its paces a couple of years ago, its a large tub, the rollover was good, the spinner big and great for rinsing with the pump, not a bad machine, but wasnt pushed for reliability.....now the other Velo which was the Servis machines was not as well made as this one - the Norfrost..!!!

I saw your video its a clever design at least the doing away with the clunky gearbox surely makes it quieter and less to go wrong it reminds me of the Servis twinny my Mum had back in 64 it was a Mk 1 with the pump lever not dial I loved that machine and can remember it now, I would so like to see one in action again sadly have never come accross one of that vintage I have used newer ones since though but its not the same.

Somebody from the German club bought a Velo single tub some day. Same machine but without the spinner. It broke down during the first wash. He tried to get it repaired under warranty but got no for an answer. No wonder that they got a bad reputation.

Cool

Fabulously creative drive for the agitator.  Reminds me of the GM Frigidaire Skinny-Mini "Synchro-Swing" mechanism, in a more condensed form.

Exactly, Nate, I thought the exact same Syncro-Swing thang!

Very interesting design, looks Asian built. I like that they used a black agitator in the stainless tub. How much does a similar style Servis hold? 7 lbs would be admirable for a twinnie, the Hoover & Maytags here will barely circulate 5 lbs.

Norfrost / Velo

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Hi Austin, it is an interesting design, it makes a very different sound to the larger gearboxes of old, but I would say its slightly louder than a good old fashioned gearbox from a traditional Servis twinny...it did make us all gasp when we saw this design, we had seen nothing like it before, the capacitor is nearly as big as the motor and I`ve seen bigger lawnmower engines...LOl

Norfrost

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Hi Nate, condensed is the word!!! saying that it managed to make light of a 7lb cotton load with no problems etc, the rollover was good - again as we dont use it as a daily driver just not sure if it would stand up to wear & tear!!

Norfrost / Velo

simple system as see from the back, electric pumps, the tub is angled on both front and back and is larger at the base than the top, not totally rectangular

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Hi Greg, the Hoover twinnys are rated 6lb, but like you say on max capacity some loads labour badly...the Servis / Speedqueen holds 6lbs and the Hotpoint 7lb which clearly has a deeper tub...the modern Servis badged Velo machine hada retro feel to it, like the first Servis MK1 from 1959 which Austin remembers...again its a poor imitation to the quality of the first Servis built machines

a Hozelock hose system that was supplied with it, actually we all balked at this but at least it stays on with high pressure systems etc, no spraying hoses that can fly off and drown you...

Thats a perfect MK1 you have there and exactly like my Mums apart from hers was white, Its just when it was in the house it looked so big but that was because I was so small :) I was 5 when it came into our kitchen to replace a Hoover washer with a manual wringer...

Once again Cheers Mike for sharing..!

This is a picture of my Velo. Looks the same, although picture is from a different angle. It's a machine with a round tub.

Mike,

The single tub machines had mostly round tubs, but the last model was a square model, just like the Norfrost twintub but without the spinner.

More pictures of my Velo in my album (link)

AGITATION DRIVE SYSTEM

Is similar in concept to what Frigidare used in the agiatub washers that they made here in the 1970s.
