I AM SORRY - I DO NOW KNOW HOW I MANAGED TO CREATE THIS POST IN DELUXE.

I am trying to remove the front panel on my 1971 Frigidaire Portable Dishwasher, Model DW-CDTP. To remove the panel, I need to remove the Timer Knob.

Does anyone know how to remove this knob?

Thanks. Mike

TIMER KNOB REMOVAL

Mike it is supposed to just pull off, put some penetrating oil of the shaft and pull evenly, hopefully it will come off without breaking the timer or breaking the knob Good Luck.

John,

I was afraid to pull the knob off - because this is a pull to set, push to start timer. I thought I would damage something.

I will put some Kroil on it for a while.

A friend of mine thought that the knob is a screw on, but attempts to unscrew it counterclockwise, are not successful either.

Turn the timer to the regular wash start point and push in the timer. then see if you can turn the timer knob counter clockwise against the "stop" that's for the regular wash. My experience it will unscrew.

John: THANK YOU SO MUCH! I put just a couple of drops of oil on the timer shaft, and the knob just slipped off.

Bob: Apparently some of the other Frigidaire dishwasher had a screw on knob, but not this one.

THANKS GUYS!

Mike

another complicated GM design

apparently the engineers were concerned that people would turn the knob backwards and damage the timer. All the 1963 forward dishwasher timer dials had an internal clutch set-up (the white piece in the center) so the outer dial would just spin if turned counter-clockwise. However, the 1960 - 62 models did have a dial that seperated (unscrewed like Bob said) if turned counter-clockwise. They did away with that by the 63 model year. Apparently kids were unscrewing the knob and "lost" it, leaving mom with a non-working dishwasher.
This was actually noted in the 63 literature as a sales point.
And talk about crazy, in 1965 for some insane reason, Frigidaire had a dishwasher timer with a smaller sized shaft that would only take one specific knob. Even though it shared graphics with the other models, it never fit anything else.
