I'm beside myself with excitement and had to share as soon as I got home.  These appliances were taken out of a mid-century modern house being renovated in Stillwater.  The seller was as happy to see them go to a good home as I was to write him a check and call them mine!

First, the Gibson range....two ovens and an "upsadaisy."  (I'll need to track down the pot for it)  It's a bit dirty from being in the garage but there's virtually no rust and nary a chip in the porcelain.  It was being used right up 'til the day it was removed.

Yay, two ovens in the kitchen!  No more trecking downstairs to use the convection oven on the washer!

The "upsadaisy" deep well cooker.  I just need to find a pot for it!

Pushbutton-precision temperature control and automatic timed baking.

Next up:  a KD 12!  I have wanted one of these early dishwashers since I saw the first one when I was all of 4 years old.  I doubt it was used very much by the look of the interior.  It's dirty from being in the garage but there are only the tiniest traces of rust in a couple places.....and NOT in the sump area!

Post# 531801 , Reply# 6   7/20/2011 at 12:56 (4,672 days old) by henry200 ()

The original owner's manual was tucked inside.

Interior shot.....The door gasket is a bit "stiff" but intact, and the wash arm and sump area just have a little hard water buildup.

Sorry about the smaller photo.  It's from the CL ad.  All my interior pics somehow got deleted from my phone when I went to upload them Frown

Now I need to find a vehicle and some able-bodied assistance to get these things home.  Anyone in the Twin Cities want to lend a hand?

Congratulations

I like those full width companion ovens. They are great for cookie sheets full of baking powder biscuits when the main oven is full of the meal or for a full size broiler pan. In my Frigidaires, the companion ovens baked pound cakes just a nicely as the big oven. This range probably has open coil broiler elements. They are faster than sealed rod elements. The nice thing about the 7 heats is that you have two variations on Medium High and two variations on Low. On each of those settings you can get slightly more or slightly less heat depending on which coil is energized.

Happy cooking!

That Gibson range is absolutely incredible - such beautiful condition!! You don't see a lot of those - they were built here in Michigan.

What is that circular dial you are touching on the left side of the panel? Is that a timer?

I see deep well pots all the time - it shouldn't be hard to find one.

Many happy years of cooking on your beautiful Gibson range!!

Neil, you realize this is the same range as the first range in thread 35632, New Range Thread.  I couldn't believe you got the same beautiful range.

The same range

Yes Bob, it's uncanny, isn't it?  And even moreso because I have a friend in Florida with an identical stove!  I thoroughly enjoyed cooking with it while visiting there.  The ovens are wonderful.  The bottom elements are concealed and the heat is so even that you can bake on multiple racks without rotating the pans.  The surface units are a unique double-coil design.  Depending on the temperature level you choose either the inner or outer coil or both are energized.  Simmering on the lowest setting is a sauce-making dream come true.

Kevin....  The dial you're referring to is what raises or lowers the burner in the upsadaisy deep well.

Well, if I ever went back to electric I'd want that Gibson burner system, and I like that they offered the softer heat concealed element in the ovens.   You got yourself one very versatile and capable stove there h2c.

I agree that you should check with the seller about the deep well pot.  It could be mixed in with other pots and pans the seller  removed from the kitchen area prior to the remodel.  The nice thing is that you can raise the deep well burner to use like the other three, should you not find the pot right away.  On so many stoves with deep wells that wasn't an option, and if the pot got separated from the stove that burner was pretty useless.  Also, my experience is that these pots are manufacturer-specific and generally not interchangeable across makes.

the missing pot

The original deep well pot is long gone.  The contents of the house were liquidated in an estate sale a year ago!   I'm sure one will turn up somewhere.

Very nice finds. My friends the Jones' had the Gibson range. It had belonged to his grandmother. They made the unfortunate mistake of replacing it with some cheap thing that wasn't near as good.

Gibson oven....

The oven in that Gibson range was unique in that the oven floor is made of stainless steel and dosent chip or craze like the Hotpoint or Westinghouse ovens with concealed units.

oven bottoms

I noticed the steel oven bottoms the first time I saw the Gibson my friend in Florida has.  It makes perfect sense to avoid the crazing issue, plus it makes cleaning up burned-on spills much easier without the risk of scratching or dulling a porcelain finish.
