Looking for a KitchenAid of these models for our planned new retirement home - need a well made DW that will last, meaning vintage KitchenAid! ... we bought a new KDC-17 in 1974, used for 15 years with no issues! needs to be in excellent cosmetic condition and at least repairable with available parts, if not running well. Will be going to a good home as it'll be joining our collection of vintage ranges and small appliances. Leads are much appreciated!! We are in NY but visit in MD and VT regularly. Thanks all!

Got a lead for you!

Since I am way too far from you, I would not think either of my 18,21, or 22 Superbas would do it for you, but contact this esteemed member of the club. He may have just what you are looking for and I know he needs space. He even has a great looking Maytag Laundry pair available.
Contact Ed who goes under the name of Toploader55. You can get his contact info by searching the members list here.

Of course, if you could buy 2 of the same machines, that would give you a parts donor as just about all the Kitchenaid parts are no longer available and annything for a 14 series would be just about totally gone, even if you tried to replace the most common parts the Hobaart domestic and commercial machines shared back then.
But if you get one in good condition, you will have a machine which should give you a good amount of service life. Just go into the project with your eyes open.
Steve

Thanks Steve!! I will contact him and see what the possibilities are... I have a Sis in Winter Haven FL and my Mom just sold her house in Englewood to go to ass't living, so do have family there, can you post me a pic of the KDS-18? I'd be interested... besides the one on the drawing board, I have 2 other houses to retro-fit with vintage machines! Many thanks!

If you liked your KDC-17, I have one in Harvest Gold also from 1974, almost never used. It is mint. I was going to install it in my current home, but would have to paint it and I don't want to ruin its current finish. Its mixing valve was used to repair another machine, but I have another valve ready to install.

I have a shipper that could get it up to you sometime this fall very reasonably.

If that is of any interest, feel free to let me know!

GOOD LUCK!

Gordon

Hi Gordon, and yes, I'd be very interested, thanks! I've always loved those One Armed Wonders, I'm going to need several KA DWs, and would love a clone of our old KDC-17... as long as one paid close attention to loading protocol and kept the filter squeaky clean it did a superba job! Perchance have any pics you can eMail to: firesweep"at"verizon"dot"net ?

HI Roger -

I'm glad the KDC-17 might be of interest to you! I don't have any preexisting pictures, but I'll take some this week and e-mail them to you!

Have a great week. Feel free to ask me any questions about it.

Gordon
