I think.
I believe these came as either stand-alone portables or as a component of a Universal range. By the looks of this one, I'd venture a guess that it was once part of a range. I think the range-version was still a portable, it was just stored in the range and rolled out to load and connect to the sink to run. Mr. Dishwashercrazy has one of these interesting machines and can correct me should I be mistaken and elaborate on any of the finer points.

 Dave, You are absolutely correct. It would have been part of a Universal Range. This James looks to be nearly identical to the one that I have, which came from a small southeastern Wisconsin town. I wonder if the detergent cup is there? This James dishwasher is seriously overpriced! I think $150 is more in line. Mike
