My Hamilton gas dryer

Checkrate/Likes My Hamilton gas dryer: I just put a load of clothes in my Hamilton 700, gas clothes dryer, that I purchased in 1966, new. That old machine is 45 years old and it's never had a replacement part, not even the drive belts, nor the pilot safety. My 700 has a free standing pilot, which I turn off after each load, then re-light it for the next. It has the steel screen lint filter located at the bottom, which I thoroughly clean after each load. As I sit here typing this, that old 700 is just as quiet as when it was new. Over the years I've aquired about every replacement part there is for my 700. I have blower, motor, two pilot safeties, spare belts, even spare pullies, and I even have a new thermostate... But as of this date, I've never replaced a single part in 45 years. I've had three washing machines over the years, even one Hamilton. This is my first, and most likely only post. I saw this site and just wanted to tell about my old 700. I'm 66 years old, so I'm going to see just how long my Hamilton will run, first until the first part breaks on it, then how long I can keep it going, and me. Oh, there is one part that I don't have, nor would I attempt to replace, and that is the tub bearing...If it ever goes out, and I'm still alive, I'll them have to get a new machine. Oh, it just shut off, so I've got to fold up my clothes. Thanks for allowing me to post here. Hamilton

Checkrate/Likes *A pictue* I thought I'd check back to see if anyone read about my old Hamilton.... And got a surprise... I took a picture....my laundry room is cramped and unlighted.... I'll try to post the picture... I'm not a computer person... I should have cleaned it up a little... Some years ago I decided I needed a new dryer.....didn't do anything about getting a new one.... Then it got to be a challange.....to see how long it would work.... I sometimes hope I will live as long as this old Hamilton... Here goes with the picture? maybe. Hamilton

Checkrate/Likes *Thanks for Posting . . .* The Hamilton is a rare bird for many of us, and it's really nice to see the pic and hear the story. And you know if that tub bearing ever does go out, likely as not someone here will have a source for one and recommendations as to how to install it!

Checkrate/Likes *A most interesting day in my life* I put a load of laundry in my old 700 Hamilton this AM, then decided to look on the internet for anything about Hamilton's, as they are no longer made... I found this site, and decided to sign up and post about the old Hamilton. Well, I've went this far, so here's some more of the story: I bought this 700 Hamilton for a Christmas present for my wife in 1966.. I know, I should have bought her some chocolates or something, not something self serving to do laundry with... Anyway, she and I installed it, after we put the plastic brick wall finishing on the wall behind it...... I'm almost ashamed to admit, but that brick wall finishing is also 45 years old.. And I'm also ashamcd to admit, that old dryer has never been moved, in 45 years, no telling what's under it... My wife and I drilled the hole in the floor for the 4 inch vent piping, which has never been cleand....I keep the lint filter cleaned after each load. We ran the vent piping across the basement to the outside.. We ran a gas line, and an electric line, 45 years ago. Obviously there is no way I could have known that 45 years later, there would be an internet, and that old Hamilton would still be drying clothes, and I'd be posting a picture of it and telling this story... How can a machine, with all the moving parts that a gas clothes dryer has, run for 45 years, without every breaking a part? Well, this old Hamilton has done that..... And it ain't done... Of course, I bet it falls apart the next time I use it after all this? In a way this is silly....the last thing I thought I'd be doing this morning when I got out of bed, and decided to do my laundry, is to be telling this story. 45 years is a long time... If an automobile were made like this old Hamilton, or at least like the one I got lucky enough to own these last 45 years, you'd only need one in a lifetime. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that, after all this today, it dries my clothes the next time I try to use it. Hamilton
