Well in the front down by the motor, if its a regular one direction motor(counter-clockwise only), there should be 2 huge magnets, one in the center is for the agitation, and the one on the right is for the spin.....trust me, you would know if you have them, the slam as they engage will make you jump........
reversing motor does not have these solenoids........ reversing motor has a engagement arm to make it agitate(counter-clockwise), which is connected to the tranny pulley in the far back left of the machine......the spin is engaged automatically when the motor turns clockwise |

I thought that we already decided that you had a 1970s model with a reversing motor. In any case SQ did not use start capacitors on these either as standard factory equipment. The motor does have a centrical switch it could be this or the windings them seleves, the bearings, bad wire connection or of coerce the timer.
Welcome to the world of old washers, I seem to remember that you said that this SQ would outlast your neighbors new LG or Samsung washer many times over. But in any case if you send me your phone # I will be happy to try to help you figure out what is really wrong and help you decide if you can fix it. I have some parts for these and know someone that has a lot of parts for these ST SQs John. |
