Their 29 yr old dishwasher is Model WU 700.

They told me I am welcome to it when they decide to get a new one.

They are well aware that a newer dishwasher won't last 29 yrs., and, neither will they!

Cool Gary.  Thanks.  That 700 would be a good choice, can heat the water, although not thermostatically controlled.  Friends here used to have the 700, but it had the dark brown/black buttons.

model number confusion

Can any of you clarify the Maytag model numbering. Those in the brochure have a model number, ending in 00, but seem to be a newer design than the 01's (like the 401 and 601.

They also have only two final rinses, which indicates a newer model as the 01 models (201, 401, 601) had three final rinses.

So, are those in the brochure newer in design than the 01 models despite the fact they have a 00 model number suffix??

I had a WU700 that I purchased new in '91. It had the black dial and black buttons with 2 final rinses.

Thanks Gary great post. I knew 2 people that had the 300 series. A real power house and fun to load. But noisy as they come.

Thanks for that,I remember being about 10 or so and with my Parents at the Maytag and Kitchenaid dealer. They picked out the WU700 Maytag over the Kitchenaid cause that sells man used a yard stick and showed how the Maytag could hold more than the Kitchenaid by a in or so.I wanted the Kitchenaid cause is had the grinder in it and the Maytag didn't have any type of grinder at all in it.The Salesman got mad at me when I asked about the cake in the dishwasher. He said the Maytag didn't need a grinder in it.It was a LOUD dishwasher but lasted for years and years never a problem with it.I don't think the new Whirlpool Filter machine with that 5 to 8 hour wash is going to last like these old 62 minutes and done dishwasher's.
