Hello Group
I have a 1964? beautiful teal GE washer. I found a new pump online. when I pluged it in water gushed out the bottom. However the interior tub is rusted due to sitting water and needs to be replaced. I was told that a new tub with same compacity will work but have been unable to find anyone who will even touch this machine :( Can anyone help? I have the matching dryer which I use daily...but would love to complete my mid century laundry room with its matching washer,,
I do have a small issue with the dryer...Seams like when its drying...sounds like someone is riding a bike with a flat tire..Thump thump thump. Its heats well! There also a "Air freshner" unit on the dryer. Not sure if that works as the old stuff is long since dryed.

Wow that will make a beautiful set. Depending on how badly rusted the outer tub is they can often be repaired and recoated with several coats of marine epoxy enamel. Or a somewhat newer outer tub may be able to be substituted. If you were closer we could do this for you or you could have the machine shipped here and back to you.

The dryer may have some flat spots on its rollers, it may not hurt it but depending on how much you are going to use these it should probably be gone over rather completely also.

Hi Sherry. Don't know if you found anyone to help with your machine yet, but Savon Appliances in Burbank and North Hollywood specialize in repair and restoration of vintage appliances. According to their web site they offer pick up and delivery all over southern California. It's worth a try.

Nice looking dryer! I bet the pair look great together. I would bet some metal shops could repair the outer drum where it rusted. I have to say the dryer problem sounds like rollers(I know when the Whirlpools and Maytags have this problem they play a loud drum solo) which may be the noise you hear. I hope this helps and by Putting a Maytag Dependable care next to the dryer you have done it justice. Nice washer!
