Hi, I have a Maytag A208 washer that came with a house I bought in 1985. It has worked great but over the last couple of years it infrequently seems to get "stuck" during the wash cycle and won't agitate or spin. The dial timer keeps turning through the cycle but nothing happens in the guts of the washer. It seems to me to be an electrical problem. If I stop the washer and push the cycle or load size buttons a few times, when I restart the washer it usually works. I've sprayed some contact cleaner in the push buttons but I have no idea if that has done anything. The last time this happened I had to "rap" on the dial electronics to get anything to happen.

Does anyone know what might be the problem? If it is the dial electronics or one of the push button relays, are these available?

Thanks for you help

Get Screwed

Try tightening the screws that hold the lid switch in place.  If that doean't help, remove the cover from the control console and inspect the lid switch.  It sounds like the most likely place to start.

It is not the lid switch as the timer would also stop moving. The problem is either in the timer itself or the speed switch [ regular fabric- delicate fabric push buttons ].

Thanks for feedback

The lid switch is working so I also think it is the timer dial or the speed switch. How can I check to be sure and are these available?
