Ya think so Martin? LOL The disturbance in the force that was caused by that GE in my garage has diminished, so yeah, I think I can give some insight:

First, the top machine is a deal, I mean a DEAL. Someone up there who wants a nice belt drive to enjoy should grab this. I am 99% sure that this is a 1980 model, 20711 series machine. That means it's a 70-series. There were two versions of this model in 1980's line, one without softener and bleach dispensers (the 20701) and one with both, the 20711. These were good sellers. They had painted tops with porcelain lids however, but seeing as this one appears to be unrusted, it may not have seen a lot of use (another reason why thirty bucks is a steal). The machine could be a 1979 80 series machine, in which case it would be the same as above but have a porcelain top, however I would swear in that third pic they provided that it says '70' to the right of Kenmore Heavy Duty. It would say '80' if this was the 1979 80 series. We know that it isn't a 1976 - 1978 model because it has "ENERGY SAVER" notations above the water level switch. GREAT machine for thirty bucks. Someone save it before a scavenger gets it!!

The second belt-drive is a 1983-1986, 23721 model. This was Kenmore's best selling model of the the long-lived 1983 line, and they seem to be everywhere, I an outghta know since I have had 10 of these!! (shhhh, don't tell anybody!). I don't know why this machine sold so well, the next machine up, the 23741 had five water levels, but otherwise was identical. Five levels in a machine this large is MUCH easier to use if you ask me. I've been using one of these with three levels and I seem to always want something in between medium and ex large. I might venture to say that since this was a best seller, and since the 1983 line was very successful post the 1981/1983 recession, that this may be one of Kenmore's most widely produced models ever - just a hunch but I'm not sure on that. Oddly the five level version of this is rather rare.

The third set is a gem too - I would almost anty-up for those myself. These are Toyota Kenmores as I call them. Not to be seen in Sears stores, and oddly featured machines. This is the best of the three belt-drive models that were produced. They were lined-up as 1984 models but were introduced just prior to the 1983 line. I think this was done just to differentiate the model and stock numbers. This is a 24701 washer. It's odd because it has five manual temps without the ATC (auto temp control that married water temps to timer time settings just like the alphabet washers did in the 1960s). Kenmore was getting away from five temp models without ATC and there were none with just five temps in the store 1983 line. It also has a porcelain top and lid, of which none of the store 70-series machines did (there were four models) as they had the new DynaGuard powder coated tops and lids as standard. This machine also has an infinite water level, which was usually reserved for 80-series and up in the 1980s. But oddly, and in some people's mind in a dash of good-taste, this model does not have the DA agitator - none of the Toyota models did. Strangely enough, the other two models were numbered as 400-series machines, and even they had porcelain tops and lids. This is a great washer - it lacks for nothing unless you insist on a soak cycle. I would have bought one of these in a second had they been on the floor when I bought my 70. I just noticed that the washer has the model tag on the front cabinet - it must be a very early model, made in late 1982. This is one of only two models that used the white Penta-Vane with the softener dispenser extension on top. All the others had the dome/disc cap without the extension.

The dryer is a 1974 Kenmore 300 series standard capacity dryer with the brushed alumimum look, sloped top. These lasted in production into 1978, which is a very long time for Kenmore. I haven't seen one of these in a while and it would be a great dryer for someone. The 1974 models were from a time when Kenmores were very feature laden, even in the lower echelons of the line. This was drastically corrected in 1976.

Someone grab that $30 buck beaut and the Toyota machines!

Gordon

As nice as they were, the Whirlpool, Kenmore, and all the rest of the belt drive machines by Whirlpool never did spin as fast as I liked. i guess the Rapidry spin in the Frigidaire washers I had spoiled me.the front loaders I now own go from 1,000 to 1400 RPMs. I am not sure what the RPM of the W/pool BDs was but I know it had to be somewhere around 500. Maybe even less than that.I did prefer the BDs agitator speed and the Rotoswirl agitators over the "Crewel Action" agitators.
