I had a cousin that had a radio similar to that. The antenna was in the handle and could be moved around for better reception. We used to listen to it while I helped him with his 57' Chevy convertible.

I always love looking at vintage ads!

Ric Rac

I remember ric rac (sp? In one of the ads, the woman's neckline is trimmed in it.) My mother used to trim my sister's clothes with it. I also remember Mom carefully pressing it flat after one of my sister's garments had been washed.

Elderly friends of my parents had the same IH fridge pictured above.  It was new when they built their house, and was still going strong when they sold the house in 2004.  The only repair it had was new a new door gasket at some point in its life.  It was whisper quiet.  Our electric company bought the fridge as part of their old appliance buyback plan.

I Know Really!

My mother never pulled the agitator out to look at it. A washing machine was a washing machine, but I pulled it out by mistake. Back when I was back in high school she asked me to go back to the lasundry room and transfer the bedspread from the washer to the dryer. It was one of those heavy cotton spreads that weighed a ton wet. I used about all my stength to woosh that spead out of the tub and out came the spread agitator and all!. OMG. I thought I had destroyed the washing machine. Phew. Much to my delight, it just clicked back into place. That was a close one!!!

Thanks!

The barbershop in the old Candler Hotel in Decatur, GA where we got our hair cut for years had two of the 1953 Crosley air conditioners. One died in the 60s and was replaced by a Frigidaire.

What a treat!

These ads are fantastic, and a great read. Thanks for posting 'em!

The ad for the 1947 Frigidaire range is dear to me, for my grandmother had a similar model (I think that her's was bought in 1949). She baked for the farmers' market (known here as the "curb market"), and really relied on the double ovens. I'll never forget her bread and warm cinnamon sticky rolls!

Any chance of posting an ad for a 1959 or 1960 Norge electric range? My parents bought one when I was a toddler (hence my not being able to recall the exact year), and it served well up through 2008, when I sold their house. The new owners used it until last year, when they remodeled the kitchen.

I really enjoy these posts.

Joe

Hi Louie, great adds, these need to be on Pic of The Day or in a seperate link page adverts album, trouble is on these threads they get buried and get very slow to load!!! I wonder if Robert could make a suggestion...

That 1953 Wizard has an agitator that looks a lot like the first Speed Queens and a dryer door handle that looks like a Hotpoint.

I had almost forgotten all about those fantastic Kelvinator refrigerators with the designer fronts. Western Appliance where I worked as a kid had almost every one of those on the sales floor. I distinctly remember that small fridge with the spotted horse fur (it was "real" synthetic fur, not painted on,) the model with the carriage lanterns (there was a Foodarama like that too) and my favorite, the Chinese Red Foodarama with the dragons...it really made a statement! I'm going to use that photo as a desktop backround for both of my computers to remind me of my happy childhood...about 100 years ago :-(

Joe (Twintubdexter) I'm very glad you liked them, and thanks for the info on the Kelvinators!

Mike, I started Part Two. I know some experience load time lag due to their bandwith. I'm not sure what else can be done in order for this not to be buried. Perhaps Robert can make it a sticky?

Fabulous...

Just fabulous!!!

And I now recall my Mother occasionally removing the agitator from her late 50's Kenmore...

Though I'm not sure why...

Thanks for the flashback...

Great Collection of Pictures

Thanks for posting these great ads from the past. I remember many of the appliances on display in the then 5 or so stores in Cape May that sold appliances. Of course, we have none today.
