I had a cousin that had a radio similar to that. The antenna was in the handle and could be moved around for better reception. We used to listen to it while I helped him with his 57' Chevy convertible. I always love looking at vintage ads! |

I remember ric rac (sp? In one of the ads, the woman's neckline is trimmed in it.) My mother used to trim my sister's clothes with it. I also remember Mom carefully pressing it flat after one of my sister's garments had been washed. |

Ad cracked me up!!!! Did everyone's mother except mine take the agitator out? I'll have to say I never saw my mother gaze upon the beauty of the plastic agitator... let alone take it out of the tub...LOL!!!! or maybe she did late at night when no one was watching. |

Elderly friends of my parents had the same IH fridge pictured above. It was new when they built their house, and was still going strong when they sold the house in 2004. The only repair it had was new a new door gasket at some point in its life. It was whisper quiet. Our electric company bought the fridge as part of their old appliance buyback plan. |

The barbershop in the old Candler Hotel in Decatur, GA where we got our hair cut for years had two of the 1953 Crosley air conditioners. One died in the 60s and was replaced by a Frigidaire. |

I can't remember who posted all the great vintage ads. I've only looked at a third of them. This will be part of my fun this weekend. Is going through them and studying all the details of each appliance. |

Hi Louie, great adds, these need to be on Pic of The Day or in a seperate link page adverts album, trouble is on these threads they get buried and get very slow to load!!! I wonder if Robert could make a suggestion...

That 1953 Wizard has an agitator that looks a lot like the first Speed Queens and a dryer door handle that looks like a Hotpoint. |

I had almost forgotten all about those fantastic Kelvinator refrigerators with the designer fronts. Western Appliance where I worked as a kid had almost every one of those on the sales floor. I distinctly remember that small fridge with the spotted horse fur (it was "real" synthetic fur, not painted on,) the model with the carriage lanterns (there was a Foodarama like that too) and my favorite, the Chinese Red Foodarama with the dragons...it really made a statement! I'm going to use that photo as a desktop backround for both of my computers to remind me of my happy childhood...about 100 years ago :-(
