Hello everyone...

I am from the vac site but don't post often. I picked up this Hoover Portable Dryer this weekend and was wondering if it had any value, or is it for the scrap heap. Any info would be appreciated. I know nothing about it, nor have I plugged it in.

I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Thanks.

Mark

Its got value for the small number of people who'd want such a machine. Its a cute machine, maybe a few bucks?

Check out Macboy91si on this website, he's always had a great love of Hoover laundry. And he's an Expert on Hoover too, very helpful with mine.

This is a later version (76+) of the Hoover dryer. These are simple little dryers that are similar to a Maytag DE-50 in some ways. These units have a galvanized steel drum with round lint filter in the back that looks very close to the Maytag's. The Heating element is up front and halos around the opening of the drum again much like a Maytag and they provide a very soft, even heat for a small dryer. The only limitation really is their size, they are a very shallow dryer. There are not many moving parts in these, and usually they don't see a lot of use so I'd plug it in at least and check it out. The timer on these are funny, they are actually 3 cycle machines. If you turn the dial clockwise, it's in the "REGULAR" cycle and the heater runs for the time you set. If you rotate the timer counter-clockwise, the dryer runs in Permanent Press and does a cool down at the end. The area marked in red is the AIR/FLUFF cycle. the 90 and 120 marks on the timer should be marked in a different color (can't tell from pic), usually grey to mark the perm press cycle, the higher times are to compensate for the cooldown which I *THINK* is 30 minutes. It's silly really to give it a cooldown, it doesn't get all that hot and the drum is so small wrinkles are inevitable if overloaded which is easy. This was the mate to the Hoover twin-tub machines, but it was too small of a dryer IMO. You can generate enough laundry in a Hoover to fill a full-size dryer let alone this. That said, if you need a small dryer for things, it's a neat little unit. I'd take it if it were green, I have a yellow one already.

Hoover 0519

Does anyone know how much an alvocado green Hoover portable washer and matching dryer w/original instruction manual are worth?. They both work awesome! They were Grannys.

Really is no rhyme or reason to Hoover or other twin-tub prices. Same as with other vintage appliances such as ironers and so forth, it really depends upon what someone is willing to pay. These days as well considering shipping costs and options it often comes down to what local or perhaps tri-state area person is willing to pay.

You can always list the set or each on eBay with a reserve price and see where things go. eBay has been running some interesting offers with discounted and or free of fee listings lately, so there you are.

Instruction manual wanted

I cannot find an instructional manual for this dryer. My problem is that I cannot find the link trap anywhere. Can anyone tell me where I can get a manual (don't mind paying for it) and/or where the lint trap is located? Taking off the back seems like quite a bit of work compared to cleaning modern day filters. Thanks very much for any help.

There is a round plastic cover inside the dryer on the back wall of the drum. It has 2 holes for your thumb and finger to go through and pull towards you. The filter is mounted to this plastic part.

I have this one with matching washer in Avocado green. I love them! I paid a ridiculous amt but I hadn't had one in 40yrs. Someone will but this!

The lint filter should look exactly like this, at the back of the drum. The white round disc, like this Maytag dryer lint filter.

Lint trap missing

Yes, now I can see where it should be. I have the metal part at the back and that lint filter would fit perfectly. If anyone has one that they are parting out, or knows where I could get one, give me a shout. In the meantime, I take the hose off the back weekly to check for any lint build up. Thanks, everyone, for your help.
Regards,
Pat

If I'm understanding this correctly...

Unless you have at least the white round disk with the two finger holes in it that the lint filter snaps into, you really shouldn't use the dryer. Clothes could get snagged on rough edges that the white round disk cover up when it's in place. You'll do damage to your clothing.

Thanks.

There are no sharp edges in the metal circle in the back but I am not overly keen on running it without a lint trap. NOt sure if I can DIY a lint screen or not. I can't seem to find an exact match on Ebay or Amazon. This looks pretty close and does say Hoover. Maybe buying it and doing a bit of adapting if necessary is my best bet.

Missing Lint Filter

You can run it without the filter especially if you vent it outside, just check for lint build-up after a few months in the vent hose etc.
