The attached website indicates that Speed Queen in Canada at some point in time were manufactured by Whirlpool.

There was also 'Baycrest' at the Bay a looooong time ago! Their ranges, refrigerators, and dishwashers were Westinghouse rebadged, but I can't for the life of me remember if their automatic washers and dryers were GE/Hotpoint clones (like Eaton's). There were a couple of other odd brands like Roy (mostly Gibson rebadges) and McClary and Moffat (GE/Hotpoint clones by the 70s).

electrohome electrohome also makes/made small electric motors,both ACandDC,such as shaded pole fan motors and small DC motors as used in cars,trucks and campers for fans and pumps. | ||

Speed Queen and McGraw-Edison
Hello...I'll offer my 2 cents worth. To my knowledge, Speed Queen in Canada was made by McGraw-Edison. On the back of my Speed Queen Supertwin, it says manufactered by Speed Queen, Hespeler, Ont. (part of Cambridge, Ont.) In later models, the Supertwin was marketed under the brand name "Simplicity", but as far as I know, it was still manufactured by McGraw-Edison.

Electrohome also made home organs and some very beautiful looking and sounding ones as well. The cabinetry was first rate. I had a mid sized model up until we moved back here. I originally bought it at the old now gone Woodwards dept store on E.Hastings St. in Vancouver. Actually I bought a few things at that store on their 4 equal payments same as cash plan... A KA portable dw and Toshiba 500 microvwave oven. I loved that old store

I remember there were a few Speed Queen and Simplicity solid tub automatic washers in my family but haven't noticed who made them. And two years ago, I moved a friend and we sent his solid stainless steel tub Speed Queen washer to the junkyard (he said it stopped agitating years ago but he still used it to soak and spin his clothes!).
About McGraw Edison, I remember that my grandfather's refrigerator had a badge on the door that said by McGraw-Edison or something like that. That was a basic fridge from the seventies, the only picture I found of it (at least, I think it is) is this out of focus slide from 1976... Anyone could tell me more about the brand of this fridge?

Dupuis Frères! OMG - I am surprised anyone else remembers them!! Highly ironic that our apartment in Montreal is literally down the street from their former flagship store on the corner of St-Hubert and Ste-Catherine!! As far as I can recall, they didn't have their own house brand (they sold a lot of the Bélanger, Roy, and Moffat product lines). They were the first of the big department stores to fizzle out in Montreal - I remember standing in the line-up with my parents at the liquidation sale to buy a 'drip' coffeemaker! | ||

My grandmother often talked to me about the Dupuis Frères store but I've never seen it. I don't know exactly when it closed but I'm guessing it's in the seventies and I was born in 1977...
I think it was the only large store ever owned by French Canadians. Dupuis is a quite common name here, I have a few friends and family members who have this name. I think my grandmother also told me there was a Dupuis store on the Plaza St-Hubert. And apparently, Dupuis Frères was popular with French Canadians because their employees did speak french, unlike those in other large department stores in the western part of Montreal back in the 1940's. About Belanger appliances, who made them in the seventies? My aunt has a Belanger wall oven and it's almost identical to the Whirlpool oven we had at my job, they even had the same fonts on their control panels. A friend of mine has a very similar (but smaller 24") Gurney wall oven in her house. I know that Gurney used to be related to Tappan here (back in the sixties, there were Tappan Gurney appliances). | ||
