Matty from Australia arrived in the UK a few weeks ago for a family visit and managed to catch up with a few of us at the Penkerage bagwash in Staffs for a laundry fest....

Thankyou for an amazing weekend, really made a little dream come true spending a weekend with great washers and great people!

Couldn't fault any part of it it was simply wonderful. Was not very happy heading back on the train away from it all.

Certainly given me a decent incentive to come back and visit again :-)

I would like to thank John and everyone for making me very welcome and being fantastic hosts :-)

Till Next Time

The free-rinsing Drive 2X

Hi Mike!

Can it possibly be that the Aussie Drive 2X powder has little, if not at all, sodium carbonate in it? That is a major component of US powder detergents, because I am sure all Aussie (and am told all NZ powders) no longer contain phosphates? Several US powders have sodium citrate and/or aluminosilicates("zeolite")along with sodium carbonate(quite caustic)to soften water. Citrates are perfectly fine and are non-precipitating as are phosphates, but the zeolites fade colors over time and also may cause white powder specks on laundry. That may be why the Drive 2X rinses completely.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Drive is one of my fave Aussie detergents, too. Matty converted me to a fan of  liquid Dynamo w/phosphate recently, as well.

Jason, I don't remember about Drive specifically, but several Aussie powders with phosphates also list zeolites in the ingredients. They don't generally have a huge amount of phosphate, anyway, and probably needed something extra for softening.

It's great to see all your faces, and Matty is so far from home. What a trip. How nice. Always exciting to see a TT with a "real "agitator ;'D Fun to see Jack again. You look younger than you did 3 years ago in Canton. What supplements are you taking?

Wash-Ins

Hi Matt, glad you got back to Sheffield okay, a great weekend, and have a good floght home monday!!

Chris, The Penkerage Bagwash only operates on 60d +, rubber gloves and / or tongs are a requirement, and yes the aroma of steamy hot washes waft all through the place..

Jacob, yes the OMO was used in the Hoover 964 Vision and I used one micro scoop and it did foam considerably and yes the scent is rather fresh and pleasant..

Jason, will have to check the boxes and let you know...I liked the DRIVE the best and it provided a white wash liquor with very little sudzing, had great cleaning power and the first rinse was virtually clear, which is how it should be!!

Tim, do you use the Drive in a top loader or front loader?? and how many scoops??

Supersuds, Matty used the Dynamo Liquid in the Servis Twinny and it smelled rather retro....and cleaned great..

Mike, yes rather a lot there, when its on offer we buy it, and I get free samples for testing....yes a twintub without an Agi, well its like a ocean with no water!! and we pulled out the Servis Powerglide (the Galaxy maker) and used the boil wash water from the Keymatic, then washed all the tea towels & cleaning cloths..

Mike, Thanks in advance for checking the ingredients information for me! I could possibly go to the AU or NZ manufacturer's sites for the information. My Miele Ultra Color ultra-concentrate powder rinses completely from my clothes. It has no zeolites or optical brighteners, but sadly does have sodium carbonate. My laundry comes-out smelling lightly of lavender/citrus, and is wonderfully clean! I can tell you guys about our "TOTAL" detergent ban back in the early 70's here in my county! it was a COLOSSAL flop! Jason

Hi Guys,
Just like to say a BIG Thankyou to you all for attending my birthday weekend bash wash-in ! Hosted by myself and Chestermike (AKA Servis Sooze )!
We all had so much fun, as usual, with old faces and new. A special welcome to Matt all the way from Aussieland
All we seem to do is Wash, laugh, eat, drink, sleep, Wash, laugh, eat, drink, sleep, Wash, laugh, eat, drink, sleep !!!
Hi to Terry and Kevin from the states x Terry I believe we have exchanged e-mails in the past ?
Of course, as always in this house Oovah was the star of the show.
The Servis Supertwin 110 packed up and tripped the elecs whilst rinsing the first load ! Hence the "Skirt" being off" (duck from Sooze)

Yet again "Hoover did Handle it"

This banter is great !!!!
Terry & Kevin, Matt travelled about 12,000 miles ! The States should be a quick hop across the pond lol
Anyway enough for now,
Love to all,
John x

Hi "Sudsy"! I am surprised to learn that there are still liquid laundry detergents like your Aussie Dynamo(Colgate-Palmolive AU?)that contain phosphates. I do also wonder what percentage of phosphate they contain, if displayed. I mentioned previously that I had, years ago, a bottle of then-new phosphate-containing Canadian Wisk. I had the bottle for about two years before it sort of caked-up due to the insolubility of the phosphates. The bottle was kept at a coolish temperature in the cabinet next to our washer. I sure wish I could try some powdered low-sudsing Omo from Australia, I have never used "an Omo" I never liked the scent of!(I am extremely picky) I do have the empty boxes of 1984 French Omo & Skip powders from my European travels that year. The Australian Omo (actually  made in New Zealand) smells exactly like Wisk.

Which Wisk, Sudsy?

Sudsy, what "Wisk" are you referring to, the CURRENT liquid(YUCK!) or the several-years-ago old liquid, and then again WHICH scent? I have a 100 oz jug at home of Wisk Sport that smells the BEST of all, except the old Power-Scoop powder that I loved.

Oh, sorry. I've never heard of Sport and never tried the powder. The Wisk smell I'm thinking of was the standard Wisk liquid at the end of the Unilever ownership a couple of years back. There's a family connection in scent if not formula.

I've had a quick smell of the Sun version on shelves now and it seemed about the same.
