This little gem popped up 3 or 4 weeks ago on Craigslist and my wonderful boyfriend decided to buy it for me for Christmas!!!

It was bought and used in a summer vacation home along with a 60s (?) gas Speed Queen dryer. The house was sold about 2 years ago after the couple who owned it past away. They were used for 2 summers before the new owners decided to renovate as the laundry room could only be accessed from outside. The dryer was sold and gone before I got there but the washer was sitting there manuals and all! I'm with my boyfriend visiting his parents for a little Christmas get together this weekend so I haven't had a chance to play with it or even take pictures of my own aside from the manual but it looks to be in very good shape, just needs a little scrubbing and TLC. As soon as I get the chance I'll post more!

P.S. It is a DD machine though it came with a BD manual... Interesting huh?

Nothin says Merry X-mas like a major appliance!

Is this a spin-drain machine? No need for a standing-pilot, slow dryer then? :-)

Well, it's here!!!

And I've got it hooked up to run a little test cycle! The only issue is a weird noise the motor/transmission is making during agitate and drain/spin. Any ideas? There is a little grease on the bottom so I suspect the transmission but I'm unsure how to proceed... Here are 2 vids, one of it agitating and one of it draining:

You can hear the sound best when I stop the machine in this video:

You can hear the sound best when I first start the machine in this video:

The sound is always there and it makes the machine but louder than it should be!!!

In the mean time, here are a couple more pics!

The machine, all shined up! (There is a dent on the right front near the top that the paint has some off of. I'll have to get some touch up paint for that.

Spinnin some towels! Low speed spin after the washer (the pic) and high on the final spin!

OH BEAUTY! It has the clothes retainer ring and the cone top DA agi! Excellent find! I love it.

couldn't tell anything about the noise from the video, but next time you have
access to underneath, would be good to check the coupler for excess lash.
Looks to be in very nice condition,a little nicer than mine as mine has some
scuffing on the top and the top of the panel is scuffed a little. My '84 24"DD,
60 series, does not have the dual action, but i have often seen a DA in early DDs.
The year of the machine can be dechiphered from the serial #,yours might be a very
early version-'82or'83,where the motor is in a different position than '84-later
DDs.

Ho Ho Ho

December was the worst month for my appliance business. One December the only sale I made was on Christmas eve. A young man bought an electric dryer for his girlfriend as a Christmas present. Who says romance is dead?

Try disengaging the pump from the motor and set in spin to see if it makes the same sound. It does sound like a whiney pump.

Indeed that's what it was! I replaced the pump and now it purrs like a kitten! I'll upload a video of the machine with it's new pump as soon as I can!
