That dryer is a close match to the Westinghouse FL washer my mom got in either '64 or early '65. The console, door shape and handle all are similar to our old washer. Not sure how long they made that basic style.

I think these were out until aprox.1967 around the time they restyled the newer front loaders with the old style open down "Weigh to Save" oval window washer doors and introduced their "Hand Wash Agitator" for their top load/agitator washers and, of course, their "Cross Vane Tumblig" angled arms in their matching gas or electric dryers. The 1000's and 1700's ( Space Mates ,had also been redesigned. Not too many years later, WCI bought them and redesigned only the control decor.I think my favorite model ( after the tilted drums were replaced with the straight angled ones and named "multi-speed tumblers") was from 1960 to 1962 or 1963 when the swing open models first came out. My neighbor, Mrs. Joan Bennett, a sweet, busy English mom who had 8 children, including the youngest, John, being born mentaly dissabled, whom I befriended, had replaced her "lemon" Laundromat" (1955 Deluxe model)with their "computerised" multy speed tumble, tilted front model that had a controlable interior drum light and automatic fabric softener dispenseer. The light switch,a button on the front top right side with the W/3 dot, underlined Westinghouse emblem, would turn thr drum light on or off with or without the door open. If the light was turned off, it would come on automaticaly if you opened the door. If it was pushed on, it stayed on door opened or not. John and I would sit their, noses stuck on the glass, and watch this machine from wash to final spin. Lights on and mouths open mezmarized to the max.The last time I saw John, his Dad had Alzheimer's desease and his petiete Mom,who had spent decades with Rose kennedy and had many bills and new laws past to help Americans treat those with mental retardation whether it was from Down Syundrum, Cerebral Pulsey, birth defects or accidental.I had met quite a few of the other kids my age and John's who too were "mentaly chalanged" and made fun of.Most of us in the neighborhood were not the type that avoided others with dissabilities until the original neighbors that already knew everybody else moved out and new ones who either didn't want to be sociable or were just plane down stuck up, were the ones who were a bit scared or uncomfortable to allow their kids to play with John. So, our friendship was genuine and we communicated fine.He liked my swing set and my wagon. So, his Dad, Phillip F. Bennett, a lawyer, picked me up having John and Ms. joan, his wife,in their Cadilac, to come along and help pick out a new swing set for John. We went a few places and wound up at Taubman's,a local family owned and run toy store. We picked out a great set and,as we were leaving, I heard John screaming "Launnymatts!!!"I ran threw the aisles with Mr. Phil looking for him and, sure enough, They had the Westinghouse design toy washers with the open down/slanted front doors in pink. They,at that time, were only $4.99. So, Mr. Phil went and bought both of us TWO of them so we'd both have a washer and matching dryer. They weren't made that well but,John himself, loved his so much that they were breaking down and Mr. Phil would buy him more.I talked to Joan a few years ago and was in Baltimore to go to my Dad's funeral at the time. I wanted to go see her and the family but, because of Mr. Phil's desease and his negative attitude, she suggested it be best we just talk on the phone. I went to the A&P Grocery store where John worked and had lunch with him.We talked about old times but,he only remembered the washers and the hours of what seamed to be endless fun he and I shared together.Any of those folks out there who have any children with either Down Syndrom or other birth related mental dissorders can thank Ms. Joan and her coleagues for all the days they spent getting the rights and laws regarding the handycapped, mental and physical past to show that they too are more then able to work, play, teach and have families of their own.Bfore that, their were very few,if any, ways to educate these folks and teach them skills they too can perform to be more independant.

The 64 Laundromat and dryer would have had the grey, beige & brown colors on the control panel. By 69 or 70, they went to the green oval timer dial surround. These dryers had the D-shaped door opening with the filter at the bottom. I did not like how lint built up in the area between the opening and the door plug. It was a condition that would plague WH and other brands of dryers for a long time, especially the big door HP design.
