How far we have fallen in the 50+ years since. Of course, the proper laundering practices of the 50s probably contributed to the cleaner machines, just like all of the questionable laundering conditions of today probably contribute to the stinky machines now.

 i  agree Tom, low temps, compounded with extreme overuse of fabric softner, in many homes.  It was nice to be greeted back to
AW.org with the new's "You can be sure if it's Westinghouse" & Ms. Furness, after the internet blackout. alr
