2000's Kenmore

If you are talking about the top-loaders they are essentially the same as the Whirlpool machines from the same time period. They are decent, if not great, machines. The biggest problem I have personally had with these DD Whirlpool-made machines is that eventually the neutral-drain cam stops engaging because of wear. This usually happens on the delicate and PP cycles first because they would use slow agitation for all or part of the wash. When the cam doesn't engage, the machine goes directly into spin instead of neutral drain after the wash. IF you are using a large or extra large water level that often means that the machine will throw some water over the top of the tub which then runs out from under the machine. It's not usually a lot of water, maybe a gallon or two, but enough to be inconvenient. Eventually, this spinning with a full tub of water wears out the clutch and/or ends up shredding the DD motor coupling. None of these issues are fatal or course and the machines are VERY easy to work on when these repairs need to be made.

Checkrate/Likes I just wondered how often these machines turn up in your area? I see them online quite frequently and thought that they mustn't be very good quality, but they seem like good machines. I would like to eventually find one of these for a daily driver.

Checkrate/Likes *I see them all the time* I can't belive some of the beautiful Kenmore DD washers people are letting go for new HE junk. These are "Real" Whirlpool machines. They are very reliable and do a thorough job of washing, rinsing and extracting. They are also mechanicaly sound and easy to repair. As far as the spinning during drain goes a replacement of the neutral pak will solve that. The only other common problems with these are motor couplers and DAA agitator dogs which are both cheap and easy repairs. One of these would be one of the best daily drivers out there. Checkrate/Likes I can agree on DD's these are now pretty much what is available for TL fans.Fortunately they are easy to fix.The swap shops here are loaded with them-but the sadness for other WP-KN DD machines that are curbed for the Leach,Pak-Mor,EZ Pack,Heil, Krushers when all that is wrong with them is a broken coupler or dogs.

Checkrate/Likes *kind of sad* me i had an inglis superb 2 dd washer from 1993 to 2004 that only had 2 repairs so far but if it was not for the agitator and the fact that the outer tub was full of water it was a true reliable whirlpool washer even if it had the inglis brand name and me i think before deciding to go to he washer if the actual daily driver washer is broken is to have it check first by asking an estimate of the repair cost and also i am pretty sure that if the washer still works its best to repair than having to buy a new washer because those new dd machines of today with low rinse water fills are not worth buying in my book. and the 2 repairs i am mententing are 1-motor replacement 2- was a timer replacement other than that even if what fail and cause replacement wat the agitator not following it work fine.

Checkrate/Likes They are awesome machines and I couldn't be happier with them. (for those that dont already know) We have a 1990 machine here at home, only repairs done to it were agitator dog replacement in 2002 and a new drain pump just last month. In July of 2010 I was extremely persistent in making sure my bro got one for his new house, and he did. About a year and a half later, not one problem.
