Todd I could see why someone would order this pair, as the washer is more flexible than the 64LKM and by going to the LKM dryer they got the auto dry cycle.
Back when I was selling Maytag's in the mid 1970s quite a few customers bough a A206 washer as they didn't see the need for the large tub, but they would buy a higher end dryer to get the auto dry electronic sensor of the D 606 dryer. |

The dryer is no Lady.. (I had to say that!) It says on the badge Sears Kenmore 900 and "Soft Heat". |

I did a lot of somewhat arduous research over a couple evenings a while back trying to figure out any rationale concerning the 1966 Kenmore 900 model numbers.
Specifically, there was the 1966 Lady K washer - the first 'piano' key machine if you will. Its model was 110.6604900. I had become the owner of a 110.6604910, and wondered what the difference was. As it turns out, the '900 is the true, full-fledged Lady K, with 3-speeds, the Roto-Flex agitator, etc. The '910 looks cosmetically identical, but is only a two speed machine, and thus not a Lady K but a Kenmore 900. To my surprise, there were two others also, a '920 and a '930. One of those had the Vari-Flex agitator, and the other a Roto-Swirl. I think Sears considered all the 900s and the Lady K to be 'top of the line'. But, they made a dryer that said "900" instead of Lady K, so it could go with the three offspring models without having one 900 and one Lady K in a pair. I don't think there were any differences with these machines otherwise. A well informed person in the know told me last week why Sears might do this. In our 1977 Kenmore thread, I was lamenting that Sears had a 1976, a 1977, and a 1978 Kenmore 70 series washer all available at the same time, and they differed only in print graphics on the console, nothing different mechanically. This was likely done to allow one of those models to almost always be on sale. If machine is more than 30 or 40 percent of the time on sale, the sale price had to legally become the list price. So, Sears ran one model the first week of the month on sale, than the next the second week, and so on, and never had to reclassify the list prices. They would never have wanted to loose the "Save $120 on this pair if you buy before Saturday" type deal which lured so many millions of shoppers. I suspect the same was true for the reason why three Lady Kenmore-like 900 series machines existed along with the original, and thus this dryer as well. Gordon |

If you look in the 2011 archives, you will find the thread entitled "Coppertone Kenmore Set", posted on June 4 by Captainmoody. |

Dwight, your Kenmore reminds me of my grandmother’s washer and is one of my dream machines. I will trade you any of the machines in my collection for it (Even one of the brand new LGs that I just got to replace a machine under an extended warranty complete w/ pedestals). Please check out my profile for a list of machines & email me if you are interested.

Here is a picture of the 1969 Kenmore 800 dryer controls I wish yours were located closer to me as they are a beautiful set, the 806 Maytag too. |

Thank you for answering my question about the elusive 522519. I got to see the Variflex and the suds hoses. Nice machine.
Now who's the lucky receiver? I also really love the marbled or floral-like fascia, as you all call it.
Gordon, do you have something close in your fleet of Kenmores. When people speak of thinning the herd, I always think of you because you are the only one who really has a herd of machines, i.e, all the same species. |

Just having a timer w/ the old Kenmore Permanent Press Cycle of the mid to late 60’s and early 70’s (Agitates and fills @ the same time) would be like a dream come true.
Here’s a link to a video of the cycle. The machine is a 1970 Kenmore 900 belonging to another member (Jons1077). The water pressure seems low. My grandmother’s would fill all the way up and drain again before the timer advanced. Enjoy! CLICK HERE TO GO TO washoholic's LINK |

The first time I witnessed this magical cycle, I thought the machine was broken. It's the only tine KM's behave like Frigidaires, filling and agitating at the same time. Wonder why they cut this cycle out, having the agitation after the fill.
Thought the gentle agitation + fill was very effective at coaxing the suds out of the load. Remembering how great the shirts came out in the two years I lived in the house where the LK lived, Thanks for the memory |
