ok here we go again..i have this early to mid 70 kitchenaid portable front load dishwasher. the last time i used it was a good week ago, and at that time it did a strange thing, it stopped min cycle and i had to let it sit for a good 20 min then restart the machine. today it started the cycle and was running until the motor started making a rather strange whine type noise then the motor just quit, and the machine will not restart or run at all..i had thought when i got it that the motor was rather loud to begin with but i guess it has just up and died. figures huh..so does anyone know where i can find a good used one or even a new one? the rest of the machine is to good to scrap..any help out there would be fantastic..thanks lots chris

Probably the seal in the pump started leaking a while ago and water has been running down the shaft into the motor rusting the bearing. Now the motor has died. It stopped because the thermal overload tripped due to the resistance the rusted bearing put on the motor.

Still has KDS-17 parts including a new motor unit. Rather pricey though. I am not sure if it will work in your machine, you will have to do a little research. What model number is the portable dishwasher?

If it is the 57 which was the convertible portable, the motor in the link should work, but I would check with them. Maybe you can get a used or rebuilt one.

I may have a KDS17A with a good motor. I'll check and see when I get to my warehouse again.

I would make sure that the leak is fixed before putting another motor under that pump.
