Nice, love me some portables.  180 is steep tho.   Last thing I need is another 120volt dryer.  If it was a color machine i'd be all over it.  I would love to replace the Lady Kenmore machine I have, its wheezy and the timer has a dead spot.   I just don't have any room!

Kinda Neat. Canadian Machines

macboy91si's profile picture

These look to be Canadian models, if you look at the control panels, they are not like the Whirlpool or Kenmores of the era. Also the dryer door is not the same as the US versions with a larger handle. If you look closely you can see symbols on the control panel. Neat set.

I thought the same thing Tim. The full size Canadian dryers used US-style door handles, inverted, just like this. The US portables had smaller handles, in scale with the "miniaturization" of the rest of the machine.

Could that washer be a DD? The U.S. DD version looked more like this than the BDs did.

Wild - these look like the first washer/dryer set I ever owned (bought used in 1986).  If the dials only have a single letter (A, B, C, etc) with no text to explain the cycles, they very well may be Canadian models.

Have the American version of the dryer here. It's a 78.

The Washer looks like the KM clone of the WP LHC 4900 WO.

BD

Gordon, the washer I would wager is a BD model from the style of timer knob used, I'd wager also to estimate the age from 80-82. The newer models, even during the BD era of these used a different knob (tan) and updated aluminum piece. The DD machines used the same know as their larger brethren.

BUT...

It is a Canadian machine so that may not be accurate...

The are Canadian!

Yup! These are Canadian machines, exact same model as my KM portable. This would be a TOL model with varriable water level, cottons, perma press, delicate, and pre-wash.

This would be early early 80s models, as that faux woodgrain finish was accross the entire Kenmore lineup at the time.

BELT DRIVE PORTABLE WASHER

The age of coerce makes it a BD machine as the DD portables weren't introduced till 1986, but you can also see the screw on the lower left side of the cabinet that only the BDs had to hold the cabinet in place. Great little machines.

Posting deleted already. Weird. There was an overpriced Inglis model like this not too far from me. Wonder where all these Canadian belt drives are coming from!

Leaky BD

There must be a malfunction in the inter-dimensional Canadian appliance portal... and apparently it's stuck on 1982. We should send someone to investigate.

Portals, and Hunks, and Leaks--oh my!--the AW Afternoon Funn

mickeyd's profile picture

Wouldn't it be funny if the purple WP is an 82. I have no idea what year it is . Can only decipher Kenmore codes.

The wet deck is from using the garden hose to fill: big wide spray opening and closing the nozzle, but the WP's seals are drum tight, not a drop to leak, although she has another issue--she crashes and burns on Delicate.

My 78 Dryer has the woodgrain straight across just like the one in the pic, except the handle is the streamlined American version.

A have a surprise coming about this dryer, but it'll take a few days.

Is there anyone who knows how to decipher Whirlpool codes to determine the year of manufacture?

WP

John Lefever probably can, I'd ballpark it 81/82.
