I have a Maytag Dryer Model DEC 606 which I have had only for about two years and love it. The problem is that recently the tumbler started making noise a very load noise. I shut it down quickly and visited several forum sites. All sites say the same that it was either the belts that were worn or the drum needed new rollers. I took apart the front panels as indicated from these sites and noticed that this particular model does not have rollers... Is that true? or was I not looking in the right spot? What I did notice is that the Retention pulley wiggles a little, is this normal? If not were can I find that part? Can the rod for that retention pulley be replaced or does the whole pulley need to be replaced? Please inform me as I have run out of option on this one, Thanks

606 is still the old style, no rollers. It's probably the blower fan that's going bad.

Can you describe the noise a bit more completely as well as where exactly you think it's coming from?
I have a fair amount of experience with the Halo-of-heat dryers. Hopefully the noise is coming from one of the rear pulleys or maybe even from the cabinet being out of alignment which will cause the drum to rub. It's also, unfortunately, possible that the main drum bearing has dried out and it starting to rub, there can also be issues with the blower having too much play on the shaft that can eventually lead to problems.

Thanks guys for your help and respponses. Well the noise is a loud screaching kind. Did notice that the drum turns ever so slowly but with that loud noise. When I opened up I happened to pull tight on the hold down spring that pulls against the reduction pulley and the noise went away so was also wondering if just replacing the belts and spring would work, since it seems that the reduction pulley is not sold anywhere; although the belts still look fine just maybe for this purpose they are worn? What do you suggest? I am not sure if the shaft on the reduction pulley can be replaced or if this is a sold pulley, do you know? I have attached to this thread a link to a website with a diagram of these schematics so you are better informed in this issue. Thanks for your advise. www.applianceaid.com/images/mayos...
