my zanussi has allways made a grinding sound every now and then during every wash, even before the belt was changed, but lately ive been hearing tappets from the motor, i know motors do have a faint tappety sount but this is definately an odd noise, to start with i thought nothing of it and it went away after a while, then not long after it went, it came back a week or two later and it didnt dissapear, this was about 2-3 weeks ago now, ive been monitoring the noise every usage and its not got worse untill this weekend when the tappet turned into a grind at low speed and a horrid screechy whine when speeding up for a spin, at top speed there is a constant whiney/grinding sound, but i can hear it most when i turn the drum by hand, on the speed up to a spin the best description of the noise i can give is that it sounds similar to a car speeding up in reverse gear, i thought it was the belt at first but then i thought it cant be as it was only replaced 2 or so years ago, im hoping to have a further look at the motor tomorrow at the brushes and the motor bearings, im doubting its neither of them but i cant be sure, any ideas of what it could be?
phil

I know what you mean by the sound. Like a transmission whine in reverse - Got it!

I'd say that is the bearing.

it did sound like a transmission whine at first, not so much now though but i will still check the motor bearings if i have the guts to get the belt off
