Closeup of the timer. All I know of this machine is that it leaks.

I have to get shipping... have to find a delivery service to get it down to Atlanta area (Dacula GA).

Hey Gordon do you know where I can get parts?

Post# 576841 , Reply# 9   2/18/2012 at 18:03 (4,422 days old) by 1966_mustang ()

Is the Agitator Cap cracked? or that just dirt and dust?

Can I get a photo of the motor/transmision?

I don't think it's cracked, probably just rust, or dust.

Parts are available on ebay from time to time. I know I've seen the filter brush, but I doubt the dispenser itself is available. What I have seen though are solid color white filters. If this filter is transparent, you may want to try to clean this one up.

There have been some threads on here regarding what to use to remove iron stains. Some folks have had pretty good success. I would go that route first vs. replacing the parts.

the filter brush shows up on Ebay pretty often. The housing may clean up surprisingly well. You'll find you need parts once it's in your possesion, wait until then spend more.

Use white vinegar on the brush and housing. The lime and rust will wipe right off if you soak it for a few hours. I had a 61 Whirlpool years ago that was in the same shape, the vinegar cleaned it up really well.

Post# 577039 , Reply# 17   2/19/2012 at 14:58 (4,421 days old) by 1966_mustang ()

Yeah I am going to try to use U-ship. I will also try the You Create as you suggested...

Gordon do you sale parts for this machine?
I do know of another machine for sale that is not quit what I want, but I could buy it and use the parts on it to fix this machine up..
What about an agitator? do you have one that would fit this also?

What would the iron stains come from anyway... this seems like it could be an issue, that something could be rusted out..

rust stains

the rust stains are likely from "hard water"mineral deposits combined with not
using enough detergent.Centerpost rust is a known BD problem area, but there is a
variety of effective fixes that can be done.
Congrats on finding the machine you wanted :)

Hi Eddie! Yes, that is the one! That machine came from South Carolina, so it has traveled around a bit. Here is your machine is at my house in 1993, and I do not own any of the pictured machines anymore. My nephew Chris used to spend some weekends here, and he just loved watching the 61 Whirlpool. He is in high school now.

One of these days, I will post some pics of how my basement looks now.

I stuffed a white vinegar soaked rag into the "magic mix" compartment, and soaked the brush filter in a bowl of white vinegar. I replaced the belt and all the seals and hoses on your machine in 1993. I did not rebuild the transmission, or spin tube/bearings, as they seemed ok at the time.

I always loved that machine. It was my first redo, and I loved the looks, and sounds that machine made. Gregm traded me the 61 Whirlpool for an unrestored 56 Whirlpool, and a really bad unrestored 1956 Kenmore. I still have both of those machines in my collection.

This machine came from a city located near Lake Michigan, the water in that area is probably loaded with deposits.

Beautiful shot and story, Rick. I love it! Looks like your nephew has the gene. How lucky and unusual.

Speaking of which, Eddy, your shot looks so much like the one of that rare KM 518 that John has, which Pat Coffey featured in his video, the water only-shot, just like yours: How similar the upper vanes and agi caps appear. Wonderful stuff, shared genetics, in machines and people. And it does the heart good to see a perfect machine moving to new homes and preserved by loving hands.

Ok if I have a leak where would the leak likely be? How hard would it be To fix.

1966 Mustang Congratulations on your Whirlpool that you got from Goatfarmer.

I got a 1962 Whirlpool from Martin ( Yogitunes ) here.

It is in great condition , but the machine had rust in the tub doubled then your basket.

It's from very hard Iron and mineral deposits.

So I used what Rick suggested ,Vinegar , CLR , and Brillo or SOS pads.

That's It...just heavy scrubbing about a week it took me.

Eddy & Rick Your Whirlpool's are Soooooooo Good looking !

Nice story Rick I enjoyed it.

Good luck on your tub .

Here is a before pic.

Great find Kenny, and congrats 1966 Mustang for your new acquisition. I wish you the best.

That 1961 Whirlpool that has made the rounds is my favorite of all Whirlpools. I absolutely love how the marquis lights up when it is running. The BOL 1962 looks pretty cool as well with the thumbnail cap. You do not see too many of those.

Have a good one,
James
