Martin that is not actually a Calypso washer, lol. Sears dropped the Calypso name as the name was becoming a liability to sales. I do believe that the model you just picked up may be the best of these machines as they made several durability improvements in this one, and if Brain L doesn't grab it he is missing out. |

So it's not the pump, so let's see. They did say to check for clogs to it that check ball valve area and sump for obstructions as well. Is it the pump isn't even turning on? All the stuff I seem to find is all Whirlpool, other than that one article I sent over last night. I will try and look some more, maybe someone else has any ideas?

The original pump seemed fine....but then again I had ones get stuck from just sitting, or sand and threads wrapping around the impellor.....this is the new designed pump...all-n-1...
but no movement from the pump at all....... we may be looking at board issues...anyone have spares or a parts machine? model 110.25062500 serial CS3907294 |

yeah, both pumps are the new design......considering this is a 2006, it has all the updates and newest design corrections....there are a few things I can spot right away as updated compared to my Whirlpool, yet both around the same year....one main thing is the outter tub, although plastic, has a wrap around insulation jacket, to keep the water hot....
one thing I can't find is the schematics normally inside the cabinet..... don't give up hope Brian....this thing is too new to not be able to find parts.... we've only started on this thing...... |

OK...was getting no where with the diagnostic funtioning as required.......
blind as a bat....I could not find the schematics in the cabinet or under the control panel...as in mine........ went to pull the front panel ou to start putting this thing back together.....and there it was, stuck onto the panel.......... BUT..it says "for service technician only!".....well, he ain't here...SCREW him! followed the directions.......unplugged everything in the control panel, replace everything again, power it up, and start hitting the "dance" keys....everything fired up, and it started pumping....... |

can you see it now....Brian hugging a machine on his front lawn....what will the neighbors think?...... get a room....... you know this machine does not vibrate like the GE FilterFo you were riding at my house....... |

Well yes I did, but this one would be in the back of the Jeep, right? Only the best ride for my machine. Remember, it is a finicky Calypso. They're high maintenance.
The neighbors are already thinking, it's too late to worry about that. We do have a room already, but it's gonna make me lug it there before we go any further. Riding your Filter-Flo? I was merely enjoying it's massaging benefits on my sore butt from sitting in the car for 3 hours. You did say the Calypso has springs on it that makes it "bounce". That sounds like fun. |

OK....more to do.......first lifted the top, removed the splash shield, and balance ring.....the muck and sludge was horrible......now its all scrubbed and bleached out, the water fall tube is now attached to the outter tub(which it wasn't).....all back together......its one happy camper!
of course, you know me and my little tricks, add the lid switch override...*hidden behind secret squirrel panel*...... |

You better not let your resident Whirlpool Calypso see the Kenmore Elite Calypso. It might get jealous thinking that you found a new love from the more "Elite" side of town.
You leave them alone and someone is bound to be a Collapso -cough- Yours! -cough- PS: Lid switch looks awesome. You know you want to come up THIS weekend to visit me. Or I may have to come down again. Mr. Calypso misses his new owner lol. (We won't even talk about how we haven't met yet.) |

Well you know Martin, the poor thing is all confused being in that South Jersey air and water. It's got to come up to the good part, North!
Eyes too far apart eh? I'll remember that one :-P A modern machine for sure. The only tremors will be from my bouncy living room floor as I keep dragging machines through it. Even Matt was like "So Brian, how new is this machine? 2006 why? You taking one in that new, what about your vintage only rule? Does this mean I don't have babysit it during a cycle now?" Of course I was like, "Oh heck yes, I will still babysit it and so should you. The sacrilege!" I had a little laugh with that. Well the only answer I could think of, is if I have to have one HE washer, this is the one I want. No front loaders. It's very unique, just like the 1-18 I have, so why not. |

StainTreat option.......back and forth, HIGH speed spin and nutation, the whole time being flooded with suds and minimal water........I don't even have that on mine....curses
Ext Spin and Extra Rinse option.... push pad once for ExSpin, again for ExRinse, again for both, and again for OFF Normal wash.....Wash and 3 rinses in 43 minutes, ExtSpin adds 3 more minutes to the last spin... ExpressWash.....total time 22 minutes.....not bad for either one of regular loads the longest is HeavyDuty and WhitestWhites.....65 minutes....StainTreat can be turned off...but with it on, Wash time alone is 23 minutes SaturatedSoak.....adds 16 minutes to any cycle.....load spray and spin, plus periods of wash action....... 800RPM final spin speed |

I see someone has been putting the machine through it's paces. Seems to be performing admirably. Not too bad on the times either for an HE. I could live with that. I would most likely be using normal with no extras for most items anyway.
That spin speed ought to leave the clothes pretty well spun. Isn't the 1-18 the same RPM too? I'm so excited and anxious to see it lol. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas day. |

This machine handles a WIDE variety of loads, very well I might add, with minimal water EFFECTIVELY.....20 towels is a hard thing to comprehend, as with any load, based on bulk rather than quantity.....and although soe of the loads like on YouTbe may seem small, thats only because the wet clothes are compressed down.....you start this machine by dropping in clothes freely, until you reach the top of the tub....once water and suds start to saturate every compacts down.....but not only do you have the bouncing of the wash plate, but the continous water fall flow of suds water pouring over the load....which I find very effective in making sure all the clothes are saturated equally, and the same for rinsing......I really think this continuous water fall would be a help to the Cabrio/Bravo style and other impellor style TL HE washers....some do have the water fall, bu on a time limit, once the clothes are wet, and agitation starts the water stops....
I hve washed everything from baby diapers to king comforters, throw rugs to stuffed animals.....and although some people have issues with these machines.....I have had nothing but great cleaning results the first time, everytime!......that 1/4 cup of detergent and 3 gallons of water can do wonders for any load.... I invite you to try one out...Brian did at my house last week......for a modern machine, he is sold....and blind luck we found one for him |

I used a Calypso years back....when they first came out (about 1998/99). I was working for the catering department in a nursing home. We washed and ironed all of the linens, towels, etc. That washer can take a full load and wash it well. We were doing up to 20 loads a day in that beast. Because of it being new, EcoLab did not have the proper detergent for it, and it constantly needed repairs due to over sudsing, and lint build up. Other than being repaired about every 5-6 months, it cleaned very well, and held quite a bit of laundry compared to other TL washers at that time. It lasted about 5 years, until they went back to a standard Whirlpool TL, since no one wanted to jump on the FL wagon yet. I used to get fussed at for messing with the lid switch, so I could watch it operate through the cycles. ;)

There are many reasons, they are were very expensive to build and very complicated. They were marketed badly by Sears and WP alike as they only had one model in under name plate. The Calypso project started almost 20 years before this machine appeared on the market and by the time it was introduced it was never going to be competitive to build cost wise. So like early Combination washer- dryers they did not spend more money on this machine further improving and perfecting it.
But all in all it was a very good attempt at building an efficient, effective TL washer. And it is a good modern classic that I always intend to keep in my laundry arsenal. |

I can attest that you can put a lot of clothes in it at once. I had put 4 bath towels and 5 denim jeans in, and it handled them with ease! The load does compress down considerably after saturated, but still turns over as in a regular top loading machine, and counter-clockwise at the same time. I have a video which I will upload and post here so everyone can see.
I must admit I was very skeptical, and if it was'nt for seeing Martin's and testing it myself, there would have never been an HE machine in my basement. It appears to be a reliable machine, and if treated well, will last a long time. With that said, I am still going to stock spare parts just in case, and probably should for all my machines. |

Brian that is a fun machine and you will have a great time with it and lower your energy cost. You are now the owner of the first attempted HE top loader. The funny thing is that the Apex washer I think was very simular so it's not a new concept in wobble washing. And if they modified the Apex I think it could be a HE washer today.
Martin you never sense to amaze me . You should start your on accesary parts and modifications buesness Mr.
Brian I have a spare lid The Dome of silence which Whirlpool called it...lol I guess you can create even a nicer one then I have. In spite of the downfalls of this machine, it does have the best handwash program it just spins an spray with little nutation. Which it hardly moves the clothes off the plate.
My Dual action model..lol

Demo window......for now its just that.....fully open........no plexiglas yet.....if you take notice, it just snaps in place and held there by the door lock feature....permanent door still in place....but lets you see the function better than using the metal hanger and holding the button in...
its actually a door I ruined by washing car mats, the inside plastic was broke on the inside...but having one with a better interior, you could cut it carefully to prep it for a plexiglas insert, with caulking and trim, keeping an eye on jagged edges......I used a GE FF activator for the shape of the outter doors perfect circle.....this is no different than adding a sunroof to an automobile....the only thing to consider is the gap in between, and what to fill it with if you wanted to use this permanently.....but more ideas suggest a coil of rope light inside for lighted viewing......car door edge guard will trim the outter edges, and seal a piece of plexi to that from the inside..... but would be interesting to have the washer and dryer match with lighted window doors....you do realize I would have to do this 4 times, for one house!...this may take a while....lol honorable mention goes to JohnL for a Neptune parts machine.....thanks John! there has to be a method to my madness.... |
