Unit won't start, display shows 44 minutes and "Normal" cycle light is lit. Unit beeps about every 5 seconds. Unplugged unit and plugged back in and display will light up with 44 minutes after about 5 seconds. Pressing "Start" does not start unit. Any suggestions? Could it be the lid switch? I tried bypassing the lid switch, but doesn't seem to work either. I ordered new lid switch.

Re: Calypso Problems:

Hi! Sarasota2k4, first of all, "Welcome to the Automatic Washer Club. I know that at least one person in the Club has/had a Calypso Washer, that one would hope that they might be able to help you with yours. I'm not familiar with them, but I'm guessing that it could be almost anything, including one of the Circuit Boards, having a problem with it, causing whats happening.

Good Luck, I certainly hope that someone will speak out and see what they can do to get your Calypso operating properly again real soon.

Peace and Hang in There, Steve

Calypso Problem

Hi there. I know its been a while since the last replay to your post was made, but based on my experience with my Calypso, if for some reason there is difficulty with the lid switch opening, and not closing, the remaining time in the cycle will flash, and the controls will beep. Certainly a new lid switch is in order. Make sure you order the correct switch, which you probably already have. You had mentioned that you had bypassed the switch. I have found that with this machine (equipped with CAN electronic circuitry just like many of the newest automobiles), you cannot just bypass the lid switch. The main microprocessor looks for the lid switch status to change so many times over so many cycles. If it does not see this series of changes, the main controller will shut the machine down all together, and oops! You have a dead machine. I found out all this purely by accident while trying to bypass the switch to study the wash action and cycle operation. If you still have this machine and you need any further assistance, I would be very happy to help you if I can.

Incidentally, I would not recommend slamming the lid shut on this machine. It seems that Whirlpool didn't learn it's lesson when it came to the plastic mechanism that activates the switch. If that plastic doesn't break then the switch will.
