I wanted to be sure it isn't something a collector might want.

It came with the house when I bought it and now the water valve isn't working and they don't make a replacement part anymore, so my home appliance warranty company has seen fit to replace it. Now a pretty new stainless steel GE dishwasher has been delivered, and I'd love if the old KitchenAid would go to a new home vs. the local dump.

I'm in the Washington, DC area so please let me know if you're interested in it. It's the gorgeous (lol) avocado green Superba pictured in the promo pictured below.

FYI I have a 1970s circa GE Americana 2-door refrigerator/freezer (with door ice and water dispenser) in the same avocado green that I'll be looking to give away too...just as soon as it dies and my home appliance warranty company sees fit to replace it too! :-)

Im Sure!

Someone WILL want these, That Kitchen Aid looks to be a KDS 17, some of our DC members need to jump on these!!

Thanks! I hope you're right!

I'm hoping someone nearby with an interest/knowledge will want to take it (FREE!) and can find/fix the water valve. It worked fine before that went. Just trying to not be so wasteful...particularly if someone else can truly use it.

Here's a picture of the actual dishwasher...

I Wish!

I was closer, that is one of the best dishwashers I ever used, my aunt has one just like it...1974, it washes a load CLEAN in about 35 minutes!!

Someone may...

Have a water valve for this machine. If a KDS 18 would work,(water valve) I have one. You'd be better off with this machine than a GE for sure.

Much appreciated...

but I'm not a collector at all and am moving toward modernizing my home...even with the knowledge that new isn't always a better working product. :-)

Maybe someone will want to take it from me and they can contact you for the valve.

Thanks so much for the info!!

Thanks!

Great info for the person who takes it off my hands (freebie), but I have no interest in repairing it. The installation of the new dishwasher (which is currently sitting in a big ol' box in my kitchen) happens on Tuesday. If no takers by then, I'll pay the installer to remove and dispose of it.

Since you're local, combo52, hopefully someone will contact me to take it and then contact you for the valve. Or maybe you're a collector and want it? :-)

Oh, well!

The installer is here, so it's going outside for bulk trash pick-up. :-( To those who responded, thanks for all your feedback. Sorry there were no takers.

ACK! In the least, save the racks if they are in decent shape! I'll def take those, with the silverware basket.

I'm surprised no one took. That really looks like an awesome machine, and in avocado nonetheless! Let's go Eric lol.

I have no room for the machine but the racks would be handy, I have 3 vintage KA machines in service.

Is it a 17 vintage? I kinda like the 18's, they seem to have a good rep here.

According to installation ticket....

attached to the exterior of the machine, it was installed in 1976. Mistereric, do you really want the racks (top & bottom)? If you pay for shipment, I have no problem sending them to you.

Tim/macboy91si, I only found out about this site and possible repair options AFTER my insurance company had already come out and attempted a repair, told me no parts, and sent out the replacement (no cost to me, I'm insured). So repairing is no longer an option for me. However, in all honesty, I'm doing home renovations and actually desire new appliances. My apologies if that offends others sensibilities. :-)

I understand collecting things (I have my own somewhat quirky things that I collect), which is why I went on the web looking for takers and found this great site.

I'll come back when my next appliances fade/become inoperable (GE American avocado green fridge, Speed Queen washer and dryer from the mid-late 70s) and hopefully there will be takers.

Thx again for all of the info!

You found this club and offered it up, that's a big leap. My apologies for the coy post before, I haven't been feeling well, and I suppose that came out in my post. No offense intended to anyone. It IS a shame nobody took the machine, and hopefully you are able to send the racks to Eric. Most people would not consider that an option even, and admittedly I did not read your original posts very thoroughly.

While out of your control at the moment with the insurance company, these were good performing machines, something that the new Energy Star machines don't seem to be too capable of. Personally, if I had space I would have held onto it as a backup for when your new one went kapoot. Alco Appliance in Beltsville (Combo52's shop) is a very capable repair shop and could get the old girl back up and running for sure.

No worries, Tim! I truly learned a lot in a short amount of time on this site! And I hope to pass on some vintage "treasures" to others in the future.

Thx!

I WANT IT

Left a voice mail with combo52. If he can get it for me, I'll make a trip up his way in a couple of weeks!

Post# 582202 , Reply# 19   3/13/2012 at 17:29 (4,418 days old) by MsLee13 ()
That's great, Steve1-18

The installer put it outside. I'm in a single family home and trash pick-up is done in the alley behind the house, but it's covered by the box the new dishwasher came in and we have fabulous near 80-degree weather all week, so it should be fine.

However, bulk trash is scheduled to pick it up on Monday, March 19, so it would have to be picked up before then.

Please email me and let me know if combo52 is going to be able to assist you.

Thx!

Sadly it got picked up from the alley by a scraper before I got there, so I guess there will be one more Honda in a few weeks, LOL
