this one was listed here recently in columbus ohio. i bought it for 50 bucks and picked it up last week! i love top loaders and this is my 4th g.e. built top loader using the vertical pump and motor system.

these g.e.'s are my favorite and i will keep grabbing them as long as they come along for a reasonable price!

this one's got

rollermatic's profile picture
the rinse agent knob that you have to manually set. one of my g.e.'s is the same way.

the woman i bought it

rollermatic's profile picture
from said it leaked. i assumed it had a bad pump seal. and there are no more out there that i can find. but after closer inspection i see why it would leak. someone has put it a peice of plexiglass where the original plastic panel was. this plexiglass has a chunk missing, there's the leak!

racks are not the best

rollermatic's profile picture
but the tub itself is very good. i can paint this rust on the racks with appliance touch up paint. and this machine will hardly ever be used except occasionally to keep the pump seal moist.

i "adopted" from my low life neighbor who was renting the house next to me. she got herself evicted and i took in the cats to save them from the pound! whitey is the most beautiful one! they love my dog, hate my other cat "pia" and keep all the mice away!

motor and pump

rollermatic's profile picture
removed easily! these g.e.'s are usually very easy to dismantle!

this being a later model has a plastic lower drain pump and two plastic ports for the drain hose and power shower hose. the earlier models used a metal pump and drain ports. larry in parma told me they switched to plastic as the ports on the metal ones would break off. little g.e. trivia here!

here is a pic

rollermatic's profile picture
of the earlier model metal drain pump housings. you can see how the ports are just pressed in. this one is from a g.e. mobile maid i picked up about 2 months ago.

outer bottom of tub

rollermatic's profile picture
looks great. i have never found any of them to be rusted. i will coat it with rusty metal primer and a couple coats of enamel anyway.

removed outer pump housing

rollermatic's profile picture
and tried to remove impeller. i would not budge! every one of these machines that have the white colored impellers have been a real pain to remove! one of mine i could not remove at all! the two i have with black impellers removed without a hitch!

the impeller on this

rollermatic's profile picture
one is a bit chewed up. and ofcourse there are none available for replacement.

if anyone does know of any parts supply places like modern parts in parma, oh. that may have parts for these vertical pump g.e. machines please let me know. i know larry at modern parts has nothing, i bought the last pump seal he had about 3 years ago. someone out there has to have some parts for these machines!

Post# 582361 , Reply# 21   3/14/2012 at 11:43 (4,418 days old) by rollermatic (cincinnati)
even a bit

rollermatic's profile picture
chewed up, this impeller will work fine for the amount of service this machine will get from me. i'm gonna let it soak for a good while and try again to gently remove this impeller. i also sprayed a good bit of wd 40 into the seal area of this pump.

i will come back to this machine at a later time, don't have time to deal with replacing that broken plexiglass peice right now.

but regardless of whether that impeller does eventually come off or not i think that pump will run fine and not leak!

i will post pics of the completed restore of this machine later when i can get to it. all in all it's a beautiful g.e. built hotpoint top loader from 1968 and i am very grateful to have been able to grab it!

Pete,

Nice dishwasher. You certainly have good luck finding these early GE Portables.

I checked my contact in Missouri to see if he had any of the white impellers, but he has none.

beautiful kittys

rollermatic's profile picture
aldspinboy, the one on the left looks just like my cat i has a a child. her name was 'friskie" and i got her in 1966! they look all comfy in that chair!

thanks bajaespuma, it's on my front porch and it's night time so i have to wait till morning to read the model no. if you have a lead on any parts i do know that any g.e. vertical mount motor and pump are the same parts. i have 4 top loaders and one front loader that use these pumps and they are interchangable. i'll post it in the morning. thanks again!
