Okay, so I left myself open with that Subject line...

But, today I found a pair of Avocado Kenmores and was curious about what vintage they may be. First the Dryer- The controls face straight up, towards the ceiling, with a sliding metal door that covers all the knobs. On the right is a red indicator for "Cool Down". Very smart looking.

The washer is a "Kenmore 800" with two smaller knobs flanking both sides of the large timer knob; all of them to the right side of the console. No doors. To their left is a rocker switch for an optional Second Rinse. Looks like a cast "chrome" potmetal finish to the whole affair.

Any guesses guys? Both are headed to the scrapper!
Cory

Re:

Hey! Cory, why are the Kenmores heading to the Scrapper, are they not able to be worked on and saved?

The Hidden Console Dryer is just like the one that I believe Austin just got, which is around a 1968 Year Model. The Washer sounds like it might as well be in the Mid-1960's of era.

Is it possible for you to show some Pix of these, before making your Scrapper decision final? Maybe someone else in the Club would be willing to work on them and giving them some more life. If I were closer, I would certainly be interested in getting them and working on them.

Peace and Good Luck finding another wonderful home for these Kenmore's, other than the Scrapper, Steve

Hey Steve,

I had the same feeling about the dryer - possibly a Lady K like Austin's washer. I'll take a look at them later tonight, but won't be able to take any photos. Unfortunately, the pair is not in our possession - if someone was interested, we see if we could grab them.

Cory, first of all THAT KENMOER 800 is what JasonL is looking for. It's the machine he & I both had in our childhoods (me in high-school lool). Save it, I hope it's in salvageable shape for Jason's sake. The washer is form 1969 to 1971.

The dryer, sounds the mate to the washer someone obn here found a week or so ago--with the sliding control panel access door. That dryer is from 1967 or 1968. Possibly worth salvaging. Bob

Ben and Cory

There might be some degree of variation, but typically on Kenmores of that era the mod # is preceeded with the #'s
110 and the next 2 numbers usually designate the year model. The tag for the washer should be on the back near the top, the dryer on the front of the cabinet behind the door in one of the corners.`Better not let these get crushed; put them in the pool house of the 1950's Dream House!

DREAM WASHER!

Don't crush either one. Send the dryer to Austin, send the washer to me. Unfortunately I can't afford the shipping on that thing :-( . But whatever, don't crush it. Store it, restore it, preserve it, enjoy it. Use the Permanent Press cycle on the 800. You will be disappointed.

Hmmmm...rescue that 800!!! If it looks good and isn't in ratty shape, I'll take it and get it mechanically sound if necessary, play with it for a while, then get it over to Louisiana...

Dryer? I only have one dryer space in the shed, and that will be for a DEGX1! ;-)

I used to date a Kenmore . . .

but she started acting up so I dumped her for a Maytag. We have been together for almost 15 years now, and I haven't had a problem with her at all. And believe me, she puts up with a lot of bull from me!

Tex : )
