Well, after talking with our resident expert in appliance service, John LeFever, I tackled the Kitchen Aid, On his advice, I replaced all the hoses as they were brittle, it is currently working without the overflow protection switch, and after adjusting the water flow so it wouldn't overflow it works great, I seem to have one problem, that I will see about next, the main wash dispenser cover will not latch in the closed position, so that is next on my list, I will install the new pressure switch as soon as it arrives.

about ready!

A little modification...I took the insulation off the Whirlpool, cut it to fit and glued it to the sides top and back of the KitchenAid!

One Question guys!

What is the proper water level for this machine, in other words, how far up on the filter screen should it be??

Post# 587123 , Reply# 11   4/4/2012 at 12:06 (4,376 days old) by chachp (North Little Rock, AR)

Wow - well worth the $12 investment, I would say!!  Congratulations on a fine machine saved, Hans!   I am patiently waiting for one of these babies in turquoise to surface....

Hope it will serve you well for many years to come!

Your eye protection is wonderful, and so useful for a variety of occasions!

Congrats on the KA dishwasher, you'll never go back again.

Hey Hans,

Congrats on the dishwasher and on the repair!

Question: did the added insulation make any sort of noticable difference??

Kevin

It did in my KDS-17A

chachp's profile picture

Now I get to hear all the good sounds like the timer clicking and the water moving around and don't need to hear the motor too much.  I have a Kitchen/Great room and I was concerend the Dishwasher would be noisy but the insulation made a big difference.  We did the top, sides and the lower panel.

So glad you got the water switch temporarily resolved so the machine runs. It's a beauty that's for sure. I'll bet the insulation will help with keeping the water hotter too.

Very nice Hans!

Patrick

Please stand for the reading of the Doctrine

gansky1's profile picture
Kitchen Aid doctrine states that proper water level in the 15 series should be 3/4" form the bottom of the HydroSweep hub.

Excessive water level that should trigger the pressure cut-off switch is 3/8" from the front lip of the tank.

This is the word of Hobart.

I am so happy for you and the beige of the control panel seems to match your cabinet trim.

Hey, at least you tried with the insulation. I guess Hobart just wants you to know that your dishes are actually getting CLEAN! Nice job --

It looks like a classy match. I like it that color.

Stupid me should have saved the insulation from the KA we just tossed out.

ps I noticed the Westinghouse Spoutless too

Well...

I think Ive got everything going, the dispenser lid wouldnt lock into position, so last night I took off the door panel and fixed that, the solenoid was stuck, so after about thirty minutes of polishing and cleaning, it was working, I tightened up everything and put it all back together, and so far its doing great! thanks for all the advice and help, this site is wonderful!

here! loved the pics! those old 15 model kitchenaids are great aren't they??!! they seem to have more power than the 16 and 17 models even though it's the same motor and pump basically. i did read here once that there was a small difference in the 15 pump that made it more powerful but it's been a couple years and i can't remember exactly what it was about. enjoy it!

KD 15

More Powerful Pump in the KD 15s ?

combo52's profile picture

We always felt that the addition of the Constant Rinse in the 16s and 17s caused just enough reduction in overall water pressure to reduce the noise and pressure at the bottom wash arm. The 15s were truly a hurricane in a box, they are noisy and keep the good light weight glasses out of the bottom rack.
