Amazing dryer on Picture of the day today, I am impressed by all the features it has, and a drum light too, wow. I bet this was top of the range, state of the art back in the day.
My question: how well does it dry, it says it is automatic, and automatically adjusts the heat & drying time, so does it dry so the clothes are dry, or will it need re starting several times?

1961 LKM DRYER

combo52's profile picture

This dryer used a combination of time and temperature [ without using a timer or electronic sensors ] to automatically dry and shut off at the correct dryness level with just one start. This like most other WP and KM dryers would be a very fast dryer in gas or if connected to a 50 Amp 240 volt line. This was the last Hi Wattage electric dryer to appear in the KM line, its total power draw was almost 9000 watts, and at today's power rates it would cost over a dollar an hour to operate although few loads would require a full hours drying time unless they were wrung out by hand LOL.

None of the WP and KM dryers were as efficient as most other brands of dryers until they redesigned them in 1966-7 to have a stationary rear drum. This change increased drying speed while reducing heat requirements about 25% Making WP built dryers the great performers that they still are today.

This 1961 LKM dryer is very rare, I would love to have a pair in Sunny Yellow, Suds-Saver with Gas Dryer.
