Here is a Lady Kenmore Roto-rack dishwasher that I found on Ebay.. This is like the one we had when I was born. I vagely remember it but, I have seen a video of these washing and they are powerful . I just thought maybe somebody in here might want to save something like this....

That's the DW we had only in Avocado.

It looks nice but it looks like the letter has been scrubbed off the control panel.

Now that brings back memories. My best friends parents across the street got that model in coppertone.

Nice find my friend! Thanks for bringing her to our attention. Just a few days ago I found a Vulcan Autosan (quite rare)and a Hobart AM-8 (not many of these left either) on Ebay. For sure those 2 old guys have done some serious dishes. Two old school dishroom workhorses and one beautiful lady in one week. WOW.

That is what I grew up with. The one we had there was more buttons and it was installed but, I will never forget that dishwasher.I remember when I was about ten in 1986 I rigged it where I could see it work or what would happen.I jammed a screwdriver in it and broke the safety switch but it was broke in the on position.I got in to some trouble well alot of trouble cause my opened it to add a dish and it blew water all over her and she just came back from the hair salon where she got a perm.My Mom was furious and she sent me out to get a hickory switch.I came back with a little twig, big mistake she went out and got a huge one a wore me out with it.The next day we went out and they got a Maytag Reverse rack dishwasher to my chagrin cause I wanted that Kitchenaid. That is when I saw the Maytag disposer's and the guy put nails down it for us.I was in heaven cause disposer's always fascinated me I drove then nuts for a disposer after that.I finally got my way about a year later my Dad came home with a Emerson E-100,I was mad I wanted the Maytag. It took me years but I finally have that Maytag well 4 of them and about 34 different brands.I wish they would still have those clear dishwasher displays they used to be everywhere not no more though.I would get that Kenmore if I was close..I hope somebody saves that machine it was a good D/W.I wonder is that a D.M. design or a Tappan?

KM-D&M PORTABLE DISHWASHER

I don't think that is quite a Lady KM DW as it doesn't have enough buttons or lights, but we may never know as the cheap finish has been scrubbed of the control panel, LOL. D&M DWs never had very good quality when it came to finishes or parts in general, for all their electrical parts, motors, timers etc they had to rely on other companies to make them and it was pretty obvious that they always took the cheapest bidder.

Wes great stories about your fascination about disposers, when my younger brother Jeff and I were younger we used to ride our bikes down to an appliance dealer in town. We used to find the old disposers that had been replaced and I always loved taking them apart an analyzing how they were made and worked. Sometimes we found disposers that still worked and we would run them and grind up stuff in them. Once Jeff and I found an old Waste-King and we hooked it up in the back yard and connected the garden hose to the DW drain inlet and Jeff ground up leaves all afternoon. Jeff used a dryer lint screen to separate the ground leaves from the water flow and we ended up with a big pile of really nice finely ground mulch.

Wes I don't think there was ever a KM DW that had anything similarity with a real Tappan DW, it is true that Tappan and D&M both became part of W-WH but Tappans influence disappeared and certainly never showed up in any DW with the KM name on it.

That model was similar in age to my Lady Kenmore but I dont think it is quite Sears Best model. Mine had all pushbuttons and no dial, plus a much thicker butcher block top. There were 2 rows of lights in that panel where the dial is, first showing which cycle it was on and the second row showed the water temp. Very good cleaning machine but unfortunately the tub rusted out.

Here it is minus the butcher block top in the 1971 Simpson-Sears catalogue. $30 extra for the wood top and fan forced drying..
Would have been less expensive in the US by probably around $100

That model "A" is identical to the one I had. I never knew the exact cost new. A good friend of the family was the Appliance Manager at our local Sears and he got this back as a repo model. I paid $100 for it.

The Lady Kenmore

That model "A" Lady Kenmore in the ad is exactly what my aunt had in her kitchen. It was coffee brown and beautiful. she never used it. After about 18-20 years of non use (she just stored bowls in it), the moved it outside and let it rust away to nothing behind their shed.
