The reason these have side swing doors is that they are Canadian models. Note also that the lower part of the cabinet has the earlier ('57-'60) Whirlpool stamping. |

I remember our first Kenmore dryer had the side swing door and the UV lamp. I probably would have been about 5 when I began to notice such things, that light especially. Mom bought her first automatic washer, a Kenmore frog-eye around 1955/56 the year I was born and the first Simpson-Sears stores opened here. The dryer had to be a few years later because it didn't match the washer and it had the squared off look console with the chrome trim etc and 3 color coded programs around the dial. I'm guessing before that she just used to dry clothes on the line
