we move into our new apartment at the end of the month,so we'll be saying goodbye to our LG machine which came with this place, our new home has intergrated appliances except for the washer,

And at a glance i noticed my new washer will be a white Indesit 1400 spin, not sure if it's a washer dryer or the 3rd dial is a spin selector,

Anyhow,i've never had any dealings with Indesit Machines so i wondered if anybody on here owns one,and if they're any good?

Once we get moved in i'll get the model number and keep you posted,

Neil

Indesit Company is an Italian appliance manufacturer, second EU manufacturer in order of sales volume after the Electrolux group.
Indesit is the brand name for the BOL segment, then they have Hotpoint/Ariston for the MOL segment (almost the same innards as Indesit) and Scholtes for the TOL one (and here you notice a distinct increase of quality and price!)

Indesit washing machines in the Italian consumer magazine are usually rated as good/very good for cleaning ability and good/average for rinsing ability. This puts them on par with most of the European vendors and on top of most of the Asian ones.

The supposed lifespan of such machines is around 10 years (again this goes along the other BOL/MOL appliances).

While being "plain" featured like all the BOL/MOL machines, Indesit washing machines along with Hotpoint/Ariston have the peculiarity of the distribution spin wool wash that is much more effective than static/reduced tumbling washing and gives less chances of ruining the garment. It's also endorsed by the Woolmark company that gave it the highest level of approval.

History of Indesit

Indesit is a cheap appliance brand, designed in Italy, but most are made in Poland. If it was before 2009, then you could get the odd one from the UK, though, they no longer make them here.
I find the very latest range of Indesit has a higher build quality.
Indesit is part of Indesit Company/Merloni domestics (pre-2005). It also Owns Scholtes a built in appliance brand (mid range), and Hotpoint (purchased in 2005)- which is there high quality brand (though not built as good as Panasonic, Siemens, Miele, Bosch etc), though no longer made/designed in UK.
Indesit also own the name Ariston & Creda, however both names are being phased out. (Creda already ended at the end of 2011)-the Creda website still exists, though re directs to the hotpoint UK website, and states Creda became Hotpoint.
Ariston brand name is slowly being phased out, everywhere except Italy, will now see just Hotpoint logo & name on products. I presume Ariston will remain for several years further in Italy, as that's where it launched.
The latest Hotpoint range has good build quality, and re-introduces the round door design, lost in around 1997/1998.

Anyway, You say its built in your Indesit - could be a washer dryer, or a washing machine!

it's a free standing machine, but i didn't get to have a proper look at it,so i'm not sure if it's a washer/dryer or not until i move in at the end of the month,

It's a new toy to play with anyway lol

Indesit are also known as Indes[h]it (or should that be Inde[ep]s[h]it?) - make of that what you will :P

Also, I believe some of their washers have welded outer tubs, but I cannot confirm this. Generally it's worth investigating this before buying a washer, regardless of brand.

According to a review under a lot of subscribers of the Dutch consumer organisation Indesit are very reliable machines. They had an above average rating for not having had a repair yet (average was 75%, Indesit was 81%). However the subscribers were less happy with the performance. Average was 54% while only 35% of the subscribers were satisfied with the performance of their Indesit.

Indesit probably wouldn't be my first choice if i was to purchase a brand new machine, but this one is being provided by my Landlord so i suppose beggars can't be choosers as i can't really afford a new one lol,

There seem to be mixed reviews on the Indesit brand so i guess i'll see for myself soon enough,

From what i did see of it though it'll be having a good clean out before i use it lol

riston brand name is slowly being phased out, everywhere exc

BTW: for appliances it was completely phased out here too in favour of Hotpoint, now the sole brand bearing the Ariston name is Ariston Thermo Group (former Merloni Termosanitari) that produce boilers, water heaters, solar collectors and heat pumps.
If you still see something double branded is old stock.
Ariston is a totally different company even if the founders were within family as was with Antonio Merloni appliances (ARDO, Servis, Philco, etc).

Awww

i LIKE the Ariston television adverts that are on YouTube, particularly the one where the French are represented by flying roast chickens! Another favourite is the Aqualtis "undersea" spot.

(No offense intended to any French people by me.)

@DJ-Gabrielle

I understand what I wrote, I meant Kitchen Appliances - Ariston is being phased out. They still make Ariston boilers - even here they are still made (local boiler shop sells them), and are extremely good quality too. I am sure aren't Indesit company that make those though, are they?
As far as I was aware, the machines in Italy still had Hotpoint Ariston Logo's last time I looked, but could be wrong, maybe as you say, the photo's show "old stock".

As far as I am aware, and have read around the internet:
Indesit Company owns:
Indesit - Standard range.
Scholtes - Built in appliances, mid-higher quality range
Hotpoint - Higher quality premium range - Logo changed 2005

Creda - previously low end good quality UK only brand - phased out
Ariston - good quality, high end world brand, mostly known in Italy- phased out

Former lines:
GDA - Phased out under Hotpoint UK ownership - before Indesit takeover
English Electric - Phased out under Hotpoint UK ownership - Before Indesit takeover
(I presume Merloni owned several brands like Hotpoint to in the past)

Merloni Domestic's
Existed before 2005/2006 --> became Indesit company

Again, DJ-Gabriele please ;)

Ariston heating appliances are indeed of very high quality!
As they come from the same "family" the Ariston Thermo Group is a separate entity from Indesit Company, even if they shared the name and family members and they're still tied one each other.

As today the double brand Hotpont-Ariston for appliances in Europe is only used in Russia.
Also, only in the UK and Ireland "Cannon" brand name is used

As far as Hotpoint is concerned it's a midrange brand while Scholtes is upper range, go figure that they even offer made to measure cooktops with integrated sinks and multi-function zone all on a continuous stainless steel countertop!

In the past Indesit and Ariston were two rival companies.
Ariston was created from Merloni (heating and appliances) in 1975 to have two businesses each concentrated on a market (hence Aristo Thermo Group is a different entity from Indesit Company).
Indesit was created in 1953 as Spirea.
Indesit was aquired in 1987 by Merloni Elettrodomestici (not to be confused with Antonio Merloni!) along 33% of Philco.
In 1988 French company Scholtes is bought out.
In 2000 the take over of Philco is completed and Hotpoint is bought from GEC, in 2003 the take over of Hotpoint is completed.
In 2005 the company changes name to Indesit as that is the most known brand worldwide used by the company.

Other acquisitions from Indesit company are the Panini group in 1999, Synudine TV and HiFi manufacturer in 2000, then liquidated and in 2002 Stinol, Russian appliance manufacturer. Other acquisitions are STAR SpA and Marcegallia producing hoods and steel pipes respectively.
As today one in five appliances sold in Europe is one of the Indesit brands, that's not bad, is it? ;)

Another fascination of mine of which is Boilers. I have had my Ariston Microgenus Combination boiler since 2005 without one single breakdown & it's so cost effective on the running costs.

So Philco is now owned by Indesit eh? Out of interest I was looking into availability of spares for the old Philco built Bendix machines (such as the 7147) and the situation is at first really quite confusing. Exploded diagrams are on the Electrolux website and parts are/were available from Electrolux. However, parts are/were also available from Indesit (?) who now own the Philco brand but not the Bendix brand which is presumably still owned by Electrolux.

Such a tangled mess! Regarding the spare parts situation, I have managed to ascertain that many Bendix spares are now obsolete from Electrolux but some are still available from Indesit/Philco, as Philco branded machines of that era used many common functional parts with Bendix branded machines.

Tom.

Philco

If you're in desperate need you could try asking the Italian branch of Indesit as Philco branded machines were sold till not long ago, I had a Philco Agile 6 washing machine and it was fantastic, the boot was replaced 4 years ago, not long before we got the crappy Whirlpool that needed an average of a repair per year!

well guys we finally moved in today, the model is WIDXL146,not sure what the difference is between this and the WIDL146 but maybe you guys will tell me lol,,

Anyway, while unpacking the kitchen and giving it a clean i decided to check the machine out and run a test wash, the last tenant left it in a right old state!!,the drawer was blocked up with solid powder and gunk and the door seal was filthy,
it was a right job trying to get the drawer out it was that bad,but it's now all scrubbed out along with the door seal, and half a bottle of trusty old white vinegar on a boil wash!
i did all my washing before we moved out of the old place so it'll be a couple of days before i use it properly.
once i get enough for a full load i'll upload some photo's (providing i can upload them from my iphone)
but i'm looking forward to my first wash!!
take care for now :)

Neil
