Here's a link to a story about this same dryer model for a month or two ago.

I had the matching washer to the 72 dryer years ago - it was outside behind a house and I dragged it a whole block, downhill in the snow. Had to let it thaw out before I could run it but once cleaned up, it worked perfectly and was almost in like-new condition. I used it next to my TA700 Maytag washer for a couple of years - I always liked that knob for some odd reason, still do :-)
Didn't know Kenmore got a stainless basket model... I recall that Ultra Care washer, thought it was strange they had such a full-featured machine with only three water levels and not infinite. But, that was Sears. They had a little scuffle, and lost, with the courts over pricing; sale vs. retail, and bait-n-switch so they were careful to change things around a lot so as to avoid any more trouble. When I worked there in the 80's, these little changes were apparent in almost every department that had "frequent sale ad presence." |

Thanks for the info Gordon! I had a feeling the '72 was a special machine when it came up after searching the term "vintage" on CL.
The subject machine appears to have been well-used, or had some sort of constant activity at top front that wore off the paint.
If anyone is interested, I can investigate and/or secure the machine for pick-up or shipping at a later time.
