I do know that the dishwasher in The Parent Trap was a Whirlpool with the telephone dial type timer. |

The thing w/ the Bev' Hillbillies kitchen was there was a four-burner cook top on the island, & I think against the wall...
One of the first episodes had Granny using a wall oven & being disappointed that she could NOT burn wood in it; it was a double-oven gas... ("It ain't got no firebox, it ain't got no flue...," etc., Granny complains, as the smoke comes billowing out of it!) I remember seeing that dishwasher, now & think a kitchen like that might have needed two (there are two Frigidaire/GM fridges, as well, of which I remember the fridge & freezer opening both at once, & mimicking that w/ a fridge at work once, as well as my parents' Side X Side, sometimes, too!)... Think the washer was a push-button Maytag, while the dryer had a dial (& possibly was the one that dried only electronically; while someone here would have personally made those apps' in reverse: The washer would have the buttons for Water Temp., Water Level, Speed & get the all-button dryer...) -- Dave |

The Preway turns up from time to time as the POD. You might even be able to use the Search-O-Lator feature to find a discussion about it. |

I saw the China Syndrome was just on cable a couple times this month and noticed the washer & dryer in the garage (Jack Lemmon's character) I thought it looked like a Whirlpool round window in the dryer. The cabinets and panel were reminiscent of the mid-60's Whirlpools, to me. There were only a couple of fleeting shots of him pulling out of the garage so it was hard to see. Now I'll have to see if it's available "On Demand" and see if I can pause it...
Ahhh, what we'll do for a quick appliance thrill :-) |

I have a lot of early episodes on the Beverly Hillbillies and I don't think those tandem refrigerators are Frigidaire. They look like gas Whirlpools, manufactured for a brief period after the company acquired Servel. Maybe I'm mistaken. I always thought it was strange that the Maytag washer and gas dryer did not match. That information concerning the Gas Equipment Manufacturers Group is very interesting.

The refrigerators were Gas WPs, WP continued to build and sell and improve gas Refs through the mid 1960s, these were completely frost free and had the Servel invented Ice Makers. WP was the only company to my knowledge that ever built a gas ref that was completely frost free including a zero degree freezer.
There were two gas Preway single wall ovens with broilers below and two Preway gas cook-tops as well as the a fore mentioned Preway designed and built Gas heated DW. I have a Preway gas DW in the Collection, it is a very unique machine in many ways, as Tom mentioned it has been discussed on this site numerous times. I intend to install it in my outdoor Miracle all Gas Kitchen, along with my Caloric Gas convection-microwave-self cleaning oven range which has been in use out there for the last ten years.
The MT washer and dryer were a matched set at the time as MT didn't have the push button DG750 when the A900 washer first appeared in the MT lineup. The dryer they used would have been the Electronic dry model, and this was the only MT HOH electronic dryer that ALSO had timed dry cycles, I don't think I ever saw one that worked properly, does anyone on this site have a DE701 or DG701 that works properly and both the timed and electronic cycles? |
