Higher water levels in the main wash are not per definition better. If the water level is too high, clothes will not longer tumble, but roll over. The tumbling of the clothes is part of the cleaning action, comparible to beating clothes on a rock like they did for many ages.
If the water level is too high, the clothes will not fall on the side of the drum, but in the water. This is less effective, comparable to beating clothes on a rock that is under the water level, not above. European frontloaders have delicate cycles with higher water levels. The water cushions the laundry, it doesn't get a tumbling as on a regular cycle. The delicate cycles are less effective in regard to cleaning, but is better for delicate items. Your proposed heavy setting could be called delicate too. |
