Hi everyone,

I own an excellent 1989 hand-me-down Zanussi Jetsystem ZFL1023, which I've had for over 10 years, use on a weekly basis, and have only ever had to replace the main drivebelt - it's that reliable.

Until yesterday that is - despite trying every programme on the selector, all it is able to do is pump out and/or spin. I can't get it to begin a washing cycle - it won't take on water.

Mains pressure is good, water is switched on...

The only possibly related issue I can think of is that I've been turning the mains water to the house on and off recently in order to disconnect and dismantle/weld a broken central heating boiler....

Any advice greatly appreciated, as I'd rather not have to fork out for a new machine as A. I'm broke, and B - from what I've read on this site, this machine is probably better built than many modern machines, and on that basis, I'd love to repair rather than replace...

Many thanks

Ritchie

Hello Ritchie,

I have the exact same model. They are indeed excellent machines and were made just before Zanussi/Electrolux started to cut costs.

The first thing that springs to mind is the electric water valve which may be faulty.
This is still available from shop.zanussi.co.uk as part number 50206274008 priced £20.36.

Do you have any means of testing the part for continuity before you replace?

Tom.

it could also be a programmer fault (just recalling a summular thing that happend to my old hoover mega load 7)

Check....

chestermikeuk's profile picture
1, The water inlet valves are not blocked from all the central heating work

2, That the washing machine isolation valves are not still turned off by the plumber and have not been turned back on,

3, That there are no bigger isolation valves or zones (downstairs, Kitchen , utility) turned off still...

Then

Check the washer stuff!!

Good luck

What i would do first is to try it on a boil wash programme that i think only uses the hot water solenoid valve & if that works & fills up & starts washing then i would put it on a rinse programme to see if the cold water solenoid is working. I think it could be the cold but possibly the hot solenoid valve.

This model is cold fill only.

Thanks to all those who replied, esp. Tom - I've checked continuity across the terminals of the electric valve, and there is none, when I assume there should be some?!
Valve filter is clear, so I'm going to order a new 'un - will report back when fitted!

The meter should be set to K ohms (thousands of ohms) as the water valve coils have high resistances and would appear open circuit if the wrong range was selected. If you then have no reading the valve coil is open circuit and this means it has failed.

Any news on this?

I also have this model. Excellent machine.
Mine too was a hand-me-down, (9 years ago) and has given me no trouble.

I hope you have managed to sort yours.

Hi Doug,

I thought yours was the conventional FL1023 rather than the Jetsystem ZFL1023. Still an excellent machine though.

You could also buy an FJ1023 which was the same as the ZFL1023 but with a white fascia. The white fascia version of the conventional FL1023 was the FL1025.

Sorry Tom, you're quite right. I just recognized the 'FL1023' bit, without noticing the rest!
Mine is on a fast coloureds wash as we speak. It's matching dryer still gives good service too (when I'm not using the Parnall, that is!).

I've seen the white facia version you mention. Nice looking machines these Zanussis. :-)

Doug
