Sounds like a timer or motor problem. But when you say the timer counts down then "dies" do you mean it stops at "OFF" or does it stop before that? |

Sorry, my mistake, forgot the Catalysts were usually electronic control. If the burning smell isnt coming from the control panel then maybe I would check the motor. Does the motor hum at all? |

Also check the pump...something might be wound around the pump impeller. |

These were indeed troublesome washers, I don't know any customers that still have one that is still running. I dare say you are correct that Sears lost money on many of these machines. We had a lot of them come in that people had given up on that were often just 3-6 years old and we would rob the the mechanical parts to fix a tired DD washers and dump all the electrical parts.
You probably have a motor, board, touch panel or motor controller problem, check it out but I wouldn't try fixing it unless you have free spare parts. |
