After much pondering and trying to find the needed bits I have at last been able to replicate a modern version of a 60's classic.

The Servis Twin Tub 2 in 1 pipe is once again fitted and working a treat.

Austin

The first pic shows the machine with 2 hoses.

Well done Mary

When are you coming to do mine?
There's an old hoovermatic with your name on it here as well.

Hi Austin, are those one way valves then?? so the water doesnt discharge from the washer to the spinner & vice versa??

Can you tell me the model number of your MK2, is it cream??

Hi Lance , did you get the resilient mount via darren??

Cheers, Mike

Spot on Mike

ozzie908's profile picture
Yes both valves only water out its the only way I could think of doing it !

I will have to find the Serial number but yes its cream, I have a MK1 now as well I am working on which is mostly white with a retro green panel just like the one you have, But its going to be sprayed white along with the casing as I wanted an all white one as that was what my Mums was.

Lance if you want it done to yours I can do so very easily and Hmm thank you ever so for the Hoovermatic :)
Not told himself yet I have some more coming lol will have to do some thinning out !

Austin

Thanks Ozzie

I shall look forward to my two hose twinny being converted.
Mike , thanks to both you and Darren .
I did inffact repair the rubber mount and it's absolutely water tight but thank you very much to you both for your advice.
Ozzie is hopefully coming up soon to have a go at the rest of the hoovermatics problems then I think it's going home with him to Lincoln .

What is the second hole in front of the wash tub for please? I presume the one on the hinge mounting is the suds return - its the other one I am curious about

2nd Hole

ozzie908's profile picture
Its made to hold the filler hose as it has the same shape fixing as the spin rinse, I assume its just for making it possible to close the lid of the wash tub while you fill it. Never used it myself apart from to store the 2nd hose before conversion.

Maybe our Mike can shed more light on it than I ?

It would be better if you could find some plain rubber hose rather than the ribbed stuff, which is really meant to have rubber cuffs at the ends.

Ozzie thats a really great little job you have done . I like the fact that when the back panel is on you don't see any of the gubbins. The twin line hoses are like hens teeth these days but your conversion is brilliant. Pleased you got the machine done and working again.

To everyone for their positive comments :)

I agree with Fido some plain grey hose would have been better but this was all I could find.

Slowspin as you know it would not have been possible without you !

Twinline Hose / Hose Restorer...

keymatic's profile picture
Dear All,

Does anyone know any good rubber restorer ? I have a Servis twinline hose in store but every year that goes by it is getting weaker and weaker, I have been using "Son of a gun" silicone spray restorer but just wondered if international friends have good experience with any other products ??

Cheers
Keith

I will measure them for you but it may take a while as they are in the back of the half renovated shed. I do remember purchasing the one way valves from a boat chandler and they have graduations on them to fit all sizes, as for the Y piece it was from eBay I will see what I can find out for you.

Austin

Keith I too used son of a gun applied liberally and put the pipe in a plastic bag to allow absorption of said product its stopping further disintegration but its not on the machine yet !

Oh thank you so much

Speaking of which, I brought both my Y fitting and the two one way valves and they are 19 mm , I知 planning to use some radiator hose to run from the Wash/spin tubsThrough the check valve and finish at the Y fitting Would 19 mm be okay to fit the wash and spin tubs?

I see no reason why 19mm won't work the 17mm pushes onto the hose snugly so as long as you tighten the clamps around the ends I see no issue. Pics and what have you please we like to see what's happening....

Sure thing, I値l take some pictures

Of what I知 currently using as a modern twinline hose replacement, As I am hoping to make it into a single hose like a standard washing machine,I知 using two Fisher and pykal dish drawer hosesHow痴 the modern equivalent to the original twinline hose, I知 planning to replace the hose that runs from the washtub/spin tub with radiator hoses As they would be able To handle the temperature of the hot water coming out of the washtub, Please do excuse the zip ties around the motor as they are what prevents the motor from twisting around when it starts, as due to the pulley that is now on there the original belt is too short for it so this is how I got it to work

I think your machine will heave a sigh of relief when it gets the newer 2in1 pipe fitted as the F&P dish drawer pipes are too narrow to allow the water to escape as quickly as intended. Its an ingenious work around to carry you over till you do it though :)

I知 not sure if the bearings have gone for the spinner, have a bit of a listen in comparison between these two Wilkins servis machines The first one is what I think it should sound like, The second one would be what mine would sound like

I would say they need a good oiling including the pump as its sounding like its been dry for some time. If you can get at the bearings easily enough drop some oil in them see if it helps...

I would turn the whole thing upside down and run oil down the spinner shaft and yes ok the bearings may want replacing but its not as bad as some I have encountered.

Keep us posted. Austin

I知 not sure who you池e calling Austin, the names Adam

I知 a little bit worried about flipping the machine over as Wouldn't any oil or grease from the transmission leak out of the transmission and onto the machine internally? Also would the Transmission have a breather hole of some sort? I don稚 want to flip it over until after I hear back

Hi Adam I have posted all my replies to you same as I have this one !!

I believe there is a breather hole but it should not be too hard to locate and stop it up.

Have not encountered any major leaking of oil when I have turned mine over I don't leave it too long just enough to oil the moving parts I cannot get at normally !

I just lay it on its side on a towel or blanket and then tip it right over its not going to take long to oil the spinner bearing and don't for get the pump you will be surprised how much quieter it will be.

I flipped it over and was

Easily able to get to the pump bearing although I had a bit of an issue getting to the main spin bearing as it is underneath a dome/cup shaped pulley So what should I do in regard to that?

Post# 1070747 , Reply# 33   5/4/2020 at 05:29 (1,424 days old) by ozzie908 (Lincoln UK)
@Adam aussievac

ozzie908's profile picture
You could if you felt brave enough remove the spin pulley to allow you to get to the bearing, Or spray it with aerosol oil which may help but won't be as long lasting. If you are going to remove the dome pulley put the machine on its side so as to prevent oil spillage from the gearbox when you have it removed you can up end it to oil it.

Neither that's the front with knobs and the back with hoses :)

I tend to put them spinner side upwards as its lighter to lift.

Hi Adam there is a pin through the pulley that you have to remove it may take a bit of persuasion to get it off but they are pretty solid so a bang or 2 with a hammer often does it.

If you can send me a pic I can be more specific.

Good news

I found out how to oil the bearing without taking the pulley off as there are four slots in the pulley
So I just squirted tomorrow and they rotated around quite a bit and it appears to be a little bit quieter I値l have to test that with the YouTube video tomorrow

You might want to leave that as long as you can because trust me its not an easy fix, It can be done but you need the right bearings and a new seal and a lot of hard work, you have to remove the wash deck as the spin can only comes out the top. I and a few other have done it and its a long hard slog. Getting the new parts will be a beast of a job too.

Post# 1071687 , Reply# 43   5/9/2020 at 19:58 (1,418 days old) by Adam-aussie-vac (Canberra ACT)
So essentially

Should I wait until the bearing actually fails?
