Is this a pop up tower machine?

It is, Larry!   The 'power tower' would extend from the white post in the centre of the wash arm that you can see in the third picture.   I am going to guess this is a late 70s model and that's a real porcelain tub!

Paul,
Never seen one in action, I wonder if everything got cleaned on the top rack?

There is one of these on CL here, too. Very popular in the early 80's with builders, they were fun to listen to - great water sounds, but a pain to load and fairly miserable performers, like all BOL GE's.

My mother had one of those Hotpoint "Whisper Clean" models and the pop up for the top rack didnt clean good at all. My Whirlpool has one that shoots into a top rack diffuser, but it does clean everything rather well. Except the top of coffee mugs, they still have some crap that almost looks like sprinkled pepper that has to be cleaned off every load.

In the Neighborhood I grew up in along with their GE counterpart. Fortunately we had a Hobart/KA KDP-20. This is a near BOL GE/HP with a pop-up tower.

One of My Grandmothers also had this DW in her senior APT. Not even close to her Hobart/KA KDS-15 but a decent machine nonetheless. I have also seen the TOL version of it with the constant rinse on top.

The builder that was using these later went to WP Power-Clean DW's because of GE's lack of quality and wash performace.

Several other neighbors also opted for Hobart/KA or WP machines. I belive there were also a few D&M Kenmores around.

The only thing Hotpoint about this dishwasher is the upper rack and possibly a porcelain interior but it's hard to tell from the picture.. The rest is pure BOL GE. Noisy, and as everybody else has said, not a particularly good performer.

I wonder how long that console design lasted. Neighbors of mine had a very similar looking GE under counter dishwasher that they bought in the later 1980s. I don't remember if it had the abbreviated tower arm though.
