Hello guys!
After the Mixer festival, the new place to see vintage machines appeared!
In the museum of Yugoslav History there is a new exibition called "Tehnika Narodu" which means "technology to people".

It is an exibition of all techincal stuff (from cars to small appliances) that were made in Yugoslavia.
There wasn't much of "live" appliances as there were on Mixer festival, however a LOT of interesting adverts were there.

Pictures to come up...

This is the machine that I actually have. It is in the storage burried with many other things there. It has broken bearrings, that's why it was changed in 1997, and since then it's in storage.

Translation:
Superautomatic washing machine Gorenje is very important update in every household. It is the most precious helper every to houswife in the hardest chore. Not only it doesn't save your energy, it saves your personal time aswell. All you have to choose is one of nine completely automatized programmes, and press the apropriate button. After that Superavtomat Gorenje thinks and works instead of you. Time that you saved with this appliance you can use for other chores or a rest. When we talk about this machine, we can really talk about technology that works for people. This technology is labeled with the name of the factory GORENJE.

Sloboda

was a factory in Cacak, Serbia. Their most famuos products were vacum cleaners (I still have 40 year old Sloboda celaner that works) and electrical cookers.
There was a time when they produced washing machines (in 50s - semi automatic), and as it can be seen on the picture dishwashers (licenced by Bosch, which is also clearly written on the advert).

Advert says: YES, that's the real deal.

I know this is a washing machine forum, but I hope it isn't a problem for me to share some adverts of other appliances here. Still majority and most important part is for washers :)

Iskra-Hoover

Iskra is the factory placed in Kranj, Slovenija. It was usually producing electrical components for washing machines and other techincal equipment, however vacum cleaners aswell. Licenced by Hoover, but dunno if British or American Hoover.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, and the translations too. The pictures seem to be like late 1960s/early 1970s is this correct? And an interesting cultural insight into a country which, as the time, we knew little about.

The Hoovers are UK, or perhaps more correctly, European models

Great pictures Dejan, especially of the Hoover Junior with the tools attached. Brings back the memories of me as a child wondering how on earth do u attach the tools, not realizing that the small front cover had to come off first.

Interesting material, are any of those factories still going? I like the cooker with 2 electric plates and 2 gas burners, I wouldn't mind getting one of those!

Thank you Dejan por posting this!

I like the first picture from the factory :)

My grandma first vacuum cleaner was a Sloboda Čačak (licenced by the German Progress)

Hi "fido", at that time almost all stoves had at least one electric plate cooker in case you run out of gas.

P.S. I have some other material. I will post it.

Factores

still going are Gorenje and Iskra, however as mentioned above, iskra usually produced electrical components for appliances, so, as far as I know they don't sell any appliances these days.

Sloboda Cacak was a big company, not just producing appliances, it fallen apart, and the only one part that remained live of sloboda is one that makes war equipment (bullets, missles etc)

OBOD, Ei (ElektroIndustrija - not mentioned in the adverts), are shut down.

fido,
there are combined 2+2 available to buy today as well, not just gorenje, but other brands too :)

ingemar,
can't wait to see material from you!! :D

In Reply #24 My mother had the same wall scale that the woman is holding. The weighing pan folded up in front of the scale dial. I think it was Krups. In the same picture the mixer was sold here as Morphy Richards and (occasionally) Krups. I have also seen the same design sold under a different name in Holland.

In reply #27 the dishwasher looks like a Zanussi design, sold as Hoover here and (I think) Rex in Italy

Hi Al :)

yes it could be that the small appliances were made under license of others well known brands, but I'm sure that at the time all those applinces were made here in Slovenia in Nazarje.
Now in the same plant in Nazarje are made some small appliances for Bosh and Siemens.

Yes you are right :) the dishwasher is a Zanussi (Rex). Also made under license by Zanussi-Končar.

You're welcome guys

I enjoy making threads that are about stuff little known about to most of you :) Although I must admit I didn't expect it, but it came back to life 358days later..ok 7 days less than a year :P

Jetcone, now that's a puzzle! I never payed attention, however he looks like a chimney sweep, who might be her husband. That advert might have a logic with that, since it might have been implying that gorenje's customers are all levels of society and professions ;)

Just a little more info... ;)

This thread is called "MORE from Yugoslavia" because few weeks before I created this thread, I had another one, that was also about Yugoslav washing machines on a retro festival in Belgrade ;)

Here's the link:
www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T...

And now in the real (LINK) you can see some detergents that were sold in our former country, and in what package they were ;)
