I'm looking for information on what I believe to be a Walker 1924 circa in-sink dishwasher as shown in the attached photo. Does anybody have the details of the mechanical workings or even an old manual?

 Tomm: Just this past June 3, I picked up my 1929 Walker Electric Sink/Dishwasher, Model 112R (The R stands for the Dishwasher located on the Right side of the sink. Therefore, a 112L would have the same configuration except the dishwasher is located on the Left side of the sink). I have procrastinated posting any information on my Walker 112R, mainly for lack of time to work on the dishwasher drain valve, which has completely rusted away and been discarded before I acquired the unit. The motor on mine still operates, and I believe I can put duct tape over the drain, throw some water in, and it will work. I also want to cut a piece of plexiglas for a see through lid, for demonstration purposes on this website. Perhaps this will be an incentive for me to get off of my as* and get this machine going again. Mike

It looks like it is the original Aluminum Impeller. Some rust remains around the drain after major scrubbing, plus porcelain has chipped away (but I am unsure of the cause). The ding at 3 o'clock with reference to the impeller, has, on the outside of the dishwasher tub, a large impact of some sorts, likely from a hammer or other large object. Mike

Walker operation: I can only speculate on part of this. On the sink top, between the sink and dishwasher, is a water valve controlling the water flow into the dishwasher. Next to that was a drain plunger, but mine is missing, so I cannot describe it, or its action. The operator would have manually controlled the drain, and amount of water metered into the dishwasher. Likely, the operating instructions would have said to let the hot water valve run for one minute, then close. Kohler dishwasher ads from this same era, mention that the dishes need to be rinsed before loading the dishwasher. Probably a wash of 5 minutes was recommended, followed by opening the drain, and repeating the same steps for two rinses of 1 minute or 2 each. Mike | ||
