Maybe some one has done this, but wouldn't it be cool if one of you KA enthusiasts/experts could make a list of the all Kitchen0Aid dishwashers by model and datae and show the progression of changes.

I hear many of you discuss how one had an upper wash arm that was an inch longer than the model before, this one had a different filter, this one used different insulation, etc. It seems KA was unique in that it had one basic core design, and it continually evolved over time.

My only exposure to KA was one my parents briefly had (a Hobart made one) in between their 73 GE Potscrubber and the GSD 2800. I also had one I found at a thrift store, and kept for less than a week performance testing it. I think it was Hobart, but I believe it had a rapid advance timer, no timer knob. It was a very good looking machine, but it didn't wash well. Things in the upper rack corners didn't get clean, and sometimes even in the lower rack corners.

In retrospect, after reading your posts, I bet it was the filter or blowby from the seal in the lower wash arm reducing water pressure. I was just so disappointed I didn't feel like messing with it and just donated it back to the thrift store. I am sorry now.

But, that's beside the point. If one on you could actually make a vertical list on model date produced and features introduced on that model, or modified ( sort of an evolution by glance), I think everyone on the site would enjoy and be educated by this.

Thanks, Bob. One day I'll have to take the info and put it on a chart so I can tell the differences at a glance.

That first picture, posted by barcaboy looks like the model I had.

Maybe...

If there is an "avid" member on here, they could create a Plexiglass screen and use that to detail the difference in wash performance as the models went along, from the original neutral draining KD-12 in Pink with Windows, to the KDS-21 with 3 full wash-arms!

That would be a lot of videoing, editing and internet bandwidth, but certainly would be fun to see the difference in washing power as KA/Hobart revised their original design.

KA DW History

combo52's profile picture

There was a publication that was done circulated about the time WP bought KA, it was called something like the [ Inner secrets of Kitchean Dishwashers ]. I think it got posted here at some time and I have a printed copy of it somewhere, if it can't be found I will look for my copy and send it to Robert so he can properly pass it on to members that want it. It said that it was produced for internal circulation to WP employes to help aquatint them with the KA DW line and KAs history, it was by far the best document that I ever saw on the subject and it would be interesting for a few of us who are very experienced [ Stevet, Tom, my brother and I and a few others I can't remember now, sorry ]  with KA to update it.
