We had a place about a mile from town down Mineral Springs rd. That's where my fascination with Wringer Washers was born. My mother's 1st new washer, a 1948 Speed Queen was sold to my Grandmother from Cobleskill. It's still there in the barn after all these years. |

That's my Mom's maiden name. My Grandfather drove the school bus and my Grandma was a grade school teacher until that late 50's. They lived in Mineral Springs. |

... are you really sure you want to sell them? That nice tidy laundry room is just calling out for some royal blue or turquoise (Forbo) linoleum flooring. And that red-topped laundry sink? Perfect!
Have you listed them anywhere yet? They'd sure look nice on my blue "tapis gazon"(that's astroturf for you anglos)! They do deserve better than my wet, dank basement, however. |

It may sound like a cliche, but those machines are infinitely better built and will last you longer than any all-style-and-no-substance laundry pair made today, no matter how much you're willing to spend. Like a vintage KitchenAid, be it a built-in dishwasher or a counter top stand mixer, those Maytags command respect and deserve to remain in service for the achievements in build quality and industrial design that they are.
I respectfully suggest that you take a bold step away from today's slash and burn renovation philosophy and incorporate them into the newly renovated space.
Unless you intend to flip the place, in which case they should be taken out of harm's way ASAP. |

They're beautiful. If it weren't for the shipping, I'd snaffle them up. Portland, OR is so far away from NY. |

I'm betting we'll see this pair on CL or eBay sometime soon. A classic case of watching too many "crasher" shows on HGTV or DIY.
I think it's clear that there's a void on such cable networks that needs filling. An ecologically responsible program where classic items are saved and incorporated into the new design rather than smashed with a sledge hammer. Maybe as a result we'll see people following that example instead, and it will become trendy to save a beautiful and capable pair of machines like this unfortunate set of woefully unappreciated Maytags.
Some Korean or Chinese-made pair of machines will have the last laugh after this renovation. They'll be multiple repair call junk in no time flat, as opposed to this 50-year old Maytag set that has looked sharp and likely served flawlessly up to now and can continue to do so for years to come.
Some people just don't get it. |

I've been stalking the Oneonta craigslist just in case this lovely couple shows up there. So far, I haven't seen anything like. I doubt anyone would use eBay - mostly because I hate eBay and the whole shipping/freight vs. local pickup would be a deal breaker for most, even me, who's not THAT far away.
To be fair, I have to admit I wanted to toss my avocado set almost as soon as I saw them when we bought the house and moved in. They were just so old and so ugly and just so so avocado. I had the usual visions of sparkly HE front loaders on matching pedestals powered by fairy dust and unicorn farts, in a beautifully designed ground-floor laundry room. But then reality kicked in big time and ten years later, they're still keepin' on and I've learned an awful lot about their repair. Gradually I've come to admire and appreciate the engineering simplicity and, as you put it before, the build quality that went into my Maytags. But they're still green ;-). |

These look like 65's to me, the last of the wide dryer and the no liner doors. They appear to be in great shape, I have a set of these except my washer is a suds model. These are a set that I really don't want to let go of if avoidable but if I ever do I know where they are going. I was very lucky as the tub and the bakelite agitator in mine are like mirrors still, infact I'm looking for a black powerfin just so I don't dull the bakelite. Anyone looking for a TOL (for a Highlander) set this is it. The indicators above the dials light up and the dryer is electronic. Washer is also a 2-speed with a soak cycle.

Well Ralph, it's just as you predicted - they're flipping the house. What's this BS about "nowhere to store them"? They're fine right where they are! Who on AW.org can rescue these? I wish it were me, but there's nowhere plumbed where they could go, and they deserve much better treatment than my wet basement. Help!

It's not all bad. At least Pam came here for advice, and she is grateful for what was offered. If these nice Maytags were to be left behind once the house sells, they could easily be declared junk by the new owners and hauled away. With any luck (and maybe a lower price ;-) ) Pam will have done her part to save the machines. |

Pam wants $475 for the pair. Is that reasonable?
