I hardly ever changed them as they never seemed to leak. Obviously everything has to be clean, as any sediment could cause problems. Make sure the bottom clips are on correctly and also check there is no obstruction stopping the heater from locating properly. Talking of which, are you sure it is the tub seal and not the heater gasket that leaks? You can run a bead of silicone round the seal but Hotpoints don't usually need it. Sometimes the tub fronts look quite warped when off the machine but the clips seem to pull them back to shape.

no its definately the seal as it doesnt leak now its been replaced.
but i am going to either scrap or sell the parts of the washer i think, as with the new timer fitted, it doesnt ever stop filling, it distributes instead of tumbles, and spin cycles dont distribute and just go straight up full of water, causing water to pour out of the drawer, the drum to be ridiculously unblanced and to the point the earth connection has snapped. this machine has been nothing but bloody trouble and its had a fortune of parts on it!! i just cant be bothered anymore with it and tbh if the jippos came round for scrap id happily give them it. :@

Don't Despair!

If this is not your only machine your best bet would be to leave it a while before doing anything rash! I used to sometimes recondition machines like yours and I now & again had the odd one that would give me grief but fortunately I never spent more than a few pounds on parts because I had a big stock of secondhand stuff. If I didn't have a particular part the machine could sit in a corner of the shed for a year or so until a donor machine turned up.

Over-Filling

I just found this advice on another site wondered if it might have any bearing on your over-filling problem:

Reset procedure for recent Hotpoint/Indesit machines.

1. It is recommended that the appliance is not tilted > 45° to gain access to the underneath of the appliance if water is present in the drum as this may also effect the water level readings.
2. If after any repair to the appliance the machine has been tilted >45° i.e. Tank change - pump/sump hose inspection -Pressure switch hose disconnection, or the Pressure switch has been replaced the Pressure switch must be re-set to zero level.
3. To achieve a Zero level reading on the pressure switch manually drain all water from the appliance via the drain hose by lowering it into a suitable receptacle, disconnect and re-connect the pressure switch hose, this will allow the switch to zero calibrate.
To test the appliance:
Switch machine on.
Open door and fill the drum with approximately 1 Litre of water.
Close door.
Set appliance to drain then start appliance, pump will then drain the water out. Pressure switch & Module now re-calibrated to zero.
NOTE: If the drum does not have water in it the machine drain pump will not run, even if a pump out programme is selected.

PS

Forgot to mention that, although it refers to recent models it will work on any washing machine, as it is just ensuring the pressure vessel is full of air, not water.

Hiya George

If you are tempted to take this down the tip then please don't! I seriously want a 95 machine of my own and would hate to see this be waved bye bye at! But if you know its in good hands then you will not regret it, felt terrible after tipping the WD61. OR on the other hand you could put some sealant on the upper side of the seal and put it all together and when that has dried after say 24 hours then run some sealant around the tub-particularly the bottom. Hope this helps you, Chris
