Went to a long-time appliance dealer in the town about 20 miles north of us. The main attraction for visiting them today was that they are a Speed Queen dealer.
Pretty much the same decorating story as the local Maytag dealer that I posted about earlier - no redecorating or carpet in the last 30-40 years. Not that appearances are really very important, but it seems like the local appliance stores are hanging on by a thread, and that's too bad.
The owner was pretty discouraging about putting any brand of front loader in a 2nd floor laundry room like we have, Speed Queen front-loader included.
To his credit, he didn't try to push me toward one style of machine over another. They had Whirlpool, Maytag and Amana FL & HE-TL machines in their showroom. But he did say he liked to sell Speed Queen TLs because he didn't have to try to collect on warranty service calls.
Did get to see the Speed Queen AWN412 - said they'd have the AWN 432 in a week or two and they could order the AWN 542.
I really wish I could see a Speed Queen front-loader around here (besides in a laundromat, that is)...I really like the idea of the SQ FL, but I'm not willing to pony up $1,400-1,600 sight unseen...I'd even buy a demo/used model, but they just can't be found around here.
